About Double Luck
Double Luck is a Chinese takeaway in Ripon, found at 7 Kirkgate. Its kitchen works in Chinese cuisine, and the menu includes Singapore chow mein as one of its noodle dishes. Curry sauce comes as a side, served in a pot, so it arrives separate from the main dish. The business operates as a takeaway, which means the food is prepared to be carried out rather than served at a table.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often praise the curry sauce, called tasty and decent, along with salt and pepper chips, salt and pepper calamari, special foo young and the double luck special. Fat, juicy spring rolls and special fried rice also get credit. A long-time customer says the food is cooked fresh with a short wait, and several describe friendly, patient staff. The set menu for one to four people is described as a good amount and cheaper than ordering separately. Chow mein draws the most complaints. One reviewer found Singapore chow mein short on spice with a weird aftertaste, and another had a chow mein served as noodles in one pot and meat and veg in another, with only chicken and a little beef despite asking for mixed meat. Others call the beef curry bland, the pork fried rice burnt-tasting, the onion rings mostly batter, and the duck with prawn meat abysmal with a container half filled with iceberg lettuce. One reviewer who ordered only starters gave the hot and sour soup 10/10.

“When growing up Double Luck was my fave Chinese here but until today I genuinely forgot how good it was. Since moving back from overseas I’ve been going to another Chinese in Ripon I live closer to. Sadly it wasn’t open tonight so I ordered from here for the first time in many years. Absolutely delicious. No complaints about anything. I ordered: Salt and pepper chips Salt and pepper calamari Pot of curry sauce Special foo young No 5 double luck special 1000% recommend. And I’ve also never had a bad dish from here but tonight it seems tastier than ever!!”

“Never had a chow main served in 2 dishes before. Noodles in one and meat and veg in another pot, meat was few and far between and asked for mixed meat and only got chicken with a tiny bit of beef. No card payments Hard for me to score more than 2 star it's only getting that as the service was good”

“Marvelous Takeaway in Ripon, a hidden gem. Great tasting food, I especially loved the Special Fried Rice, top notch. 👍”

“The food was bland the sauces all tasted the same, the chow mein was missing the noodles. Pork fried rice which tasted like it was cooked in a Burnt pan. Singapore chow mein with no spice and left such a weird aftertaste. Honestly if I’d lived in Ripon I’d of returned the lot. I would be kind to your stomachs and never ever eat here!”
