About L'assaggino Richmond
L'assaggino Richmond is an Italian restaurant at 9 Paved Ct in Richmond, set in a Grade 2 listed building on a cobbled street off Richmond Green. A Sardinian chef leads the kitchen, and the Sardinian dishes include malloreddus pasta. Lamb ragu is served with fresh pasta, and a Sicilian tomato salad sits alongside it. The menu is short and changes often, and a fixed lunch menu is offered with starters available as an extra. The restaurant is small and spread over three floors, and the second floor suits larger groups. Italian chilli oil and chilli flakes are available on request.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often return to the fresh pasta, singling out the lamb ragu, the malloreddus and the octopus pasta, with the carbonara and the Sicilian tomato salad also praised as excellent and sweet. Close behind are the tiramisu and the puddings, plus the fixed lunch menu, where one reviewer found the starters well worth the extra charge. Staff are repeatedly described as friendly and attentive, and the cozy, quaint, small room spread over several floors comes up often. A few note it feels cramped, with narrow stairs and a strange layout. One reviewer found the food merely decent rather than the best Italian in London. The harshest account describes a birthday dinner with a bland prawn pasta, a waitress who said the untouched dish would stay on the bill, and a charge for bringing a cake. One reviewer says to ask for the Italian chilli oil and flakes, and another suggests reserving. Another visit ended with complimentary Prosecco on Father's Day.

“Avoid!! If you can make good Italian dishes at home save yourself ££££ or go to Sebastian's opposite. The only 2 important things in a restaurant, food & service. Both were in NEGATIVE figures tonight. I ordered a tomato salad and pasta with king prawn tomato sauce, a standard couple of dishes. I received a bowl of just cherry tomatoes and a small bowl full of tasteless pasta, no sauce and 3 prawns. I left it and spoke to Kirina our waitress, I didn't eat it or won't it. I said it isn't nice she said "You didn't say anything before, it will go on the bill!" Maybe Kirina, you should have found out why I didn't want to eat it! This booking was for my friends birthday a special occasion. But the food was so bland, even chilli flakes couldn't save it. I said 3 times. "I don't want to make a fuss, but its not nice." Then another waitress came over announcing to the table, asking, that the chef wants to know specifically what's the problem. It was embarrassing. I explained my problem and said I'm happy to come over later and explain again, it was very awkward, invasive and inappropriate. We chose your restaurant for a special occasion and you were not in the least hospitable and the food very disappointing. We brought a cake which we asked whether it was ok to bring. No problem they said. They brought it out when half the table were not even there, it sounds bad but, the restaurant is small so you should know where your customers are. Then when we got the bill they charged us £45, for bringing a cake. I cannot speak for the other guests, but for me it was not worth a penny of my money or yours. Never again. From a local business.”

“We had a wonderful experience at L’Assaggino! The food was absolutely delicious, beautifully presented, and full of flavour. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the staff were friendly, attentive, and professional. Every detail made the evening special, and you can really feel the passion behind the food and service. Highly recommended for anyone looking for authentic Italian cuisine and a lovely dining experience. We will definitely be coming back!”

“Popped in for lunch, tge fixed lunch menu looked interesting. Just one other having lunch, it wascearly was early! Starters were excellent, well worth the £2 additional charge. Mains, carbonate which was also excellent See photos of the food that was served up. Oh, do ask for the Italian chilli oil and flakes. Service was good Tiny restaurent, but two further floors going up narrow stairs. Toilets are on the uppermost floor. There is a restaurent in Kingston Park Rd, same name, but this restaurant in Richmond is way better. Do drop in and ask for the lunch set menu”

“I’ve here for lunch a couple of times now, and I always enjoy. We had some starters to share today and then I ordered Octopus Pasta and my friend Lamb ragu. Everything was amazing, friendly and cozy. Will come back.”
