Customer Review Summary
Dosas and thalis draw the most praise, with reviewers calling the South Indian food authentic, fresh, and flavourful. One describes the bomby thali as loads of different dishes on one plate, enough to share, and another warns the hot and sour soup has a real chilli kick. Several mention the wide choice of vegetarian dishes. Results are mixed elsewhere: the idli is called good, but the medhu vada is described as oily and as seeming refried from frozen, and one found the chutney had no salt. Service draws the sharpest complaints. One diner reports being ignored in a corner, with only part of the order arriving until the manager was approached twice, and another was told by a waitress that the Instagram free drink offer on the table was not valid. One reviewer reports a waiter serving food after cleaning the floor with chemical cleaner without washing hands, and another says the weekend buffet was not fully ready at its advertised start. One meal ended with complimentary saunf and paan.

Every dish was prepared to perfection, and the quality of the ingredients really stood out. What made the experience even better was the warm hospitality and attentive service. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. If you’re looking for a delicious South Indian breakfast in Reading, I can highly recommend Madras Flavors. “The food was not excellent. I had the idli, which was good, but the vada was very oily and did not taste good at all. I also ordered masala tea, which was disappointing. I had high expectations for Indian food, but the taste of the food and tea did not meet my expectations.”

“This was one of the most frustrating dining experiences I’ve had. We were seated at a table in the corner, and our order was taken promptly. However, after that, we were completely ignored. We waited over 30 minutes while tables around us, including those seated after us, received their food and drinks without any issues. Eventually, I had to speak to the manager, who then realised our order had been overlooked. We received only two of the items we had ordered and were then left waiting yet again. Meanwhile, every table around us continued to be served, including dishes we had already ordered but still hadn’t received. After raising the issue a second time, I finally received an apology and was told the rest of the order would be brought out. By the time all our food arrived, we had been waiting close to an hour. The problem wasn’t the wait itself—it was the complete lack of attention and communication. Had I not repeatedly chased staff and spoken up, I genuinely believe we would have remained unnoticed in the corner. One waitress in particular had an extremely poor attitude and made me feel as though I was inconveniencing her simply by asking about our order. To be fair, the manager did apologise, but only after I made a complaint. The overall organisation and service were very poor, and the staff seemed either unaware of or unconcerned about the problems. The food itself was good, which is probably why the restaurant continues to attract customers despite the service issues. Unfortunately, good food alone is not enough to make up for such a disappointing experience. I will not be returning.”

“Madras Flavours Resto had a nice atmosphere and the restaurant overall was good. The food was okay, but there were a few issues with the service experience. When we arrived, there seemed to be some misunderstanding between the staff about seating. One staff member told us we could sit at a particular table, but the table was dirty, so we waited around 10 minutes expecting someone to clean it, but no one guided us. We ordered idli and medu vada. The food was decent, but the chutney had no salt, which affected the taste. The most disappointing part was the promotion displayed on the table saying you get a free drink if you follow them on Instagram. After following their page, I asked the waitress about it, but she said the offer was not valid. If the promotion is no longer applicable, it should be removed from the tables to avoid confusion for customers. Overall, the restaurant has potential, but better coordination among staff and clearer communication would improve the experience a lot.”

“⭐⭐⭐☆☆ (3 Stars) I have visited Madras Flavours several times. The food is generally okay, and some dishes are quite enjoyable. However, there are a few concerns that have affected my overall experience. The biggest concern is food hygiene. On one occasion, I saw a waiter cleaning the floor using a strong chemical cleaner and then serving food without washing his hands or changing his gloves. This raised questions about hygiene standards. Another issue is the weekend buffet. The buffet is advertised to start at 9:00 AM, but on several visits the food was not fully ready until around 9:45 AM. This has happened more than once and can be frustrating for customers who arrive on time. I was also disappointed with the medhu vada. It did not seem freshly made. It appeared to have been prepared earlier, stored frozen, and then refried after ordering, which affected the taste and texture. The restaurant has potential, and the food is decent overall, but improvements in hygiene, freshness, and buffet preparation would make a big difference.”
