About Kings Chef
Kings Chef is a Chinese takeaway in Reading, on London Rd, that runs two menus side by side. A separate traditional Chinese menu sits alongside the Westernised Chinese menu, so customers can choose between the two styles of cooking when they order. The Westernised menu includes satay chicken, ribs with honey and a house special chow mein. Orders are collected at the counter inside the shop. The kitchen is open daily, evenings only.

Customer Review Summary
Ribs come up most often, including the honey ribs, and reviewers repeatedly pair them with satay chicken as the dishes they recommend. Chow mein draws praise too, from a house special served in broth with a generous amount of meat to one eaten with curry sauce, though one reviewer found the rice a bit overcooked. One reviewer who ordered from the traditional Chinese menu, offered as a paper copy at the takeaway, singles out the yu-xiang shredded pork, the beef brisket with radish and a cold beef and tripe in chilli sauce. That same reviewer called the standard menu hit and miss. Several mention friendly staff and good portions. The negatives are serious. One reviewer reports raw chicken balls that left a partner ill, and describes dismissive staff and a partial refund that never arrived. Another says the kitchen closed after an Uber order was placed, then reported the cancellation as the customer's, blocking a refund. Elsewhere, the man at the counter handed over extra drinks as a treat, and one delivery came with complimentary crackers.

“Always love walking past this restaurant because it smells so good😁😅 We finally ordered a big takeaway this week and it was absolutely delicious, all the food was great. Very friendly service, and the man at the counter gave us some extra drinks as a treat to celebrate the World Cup. Highly recommend!!”

“When the food arrived and I saw the soup after ordering ribs and house special chow mein I was like "wait this isn't my order" then I looked at the bottom and saw the noodles and thought "cool their house special chow mein is served in a broth". Sipped the broth and decided "yeah I can this eat". Really, really good and generous amount of meat. But nightmare to eat this kind of noodle in soup with chopsticks as a foreigner!”
