About Kowloon Cafe
Kowloon Cafe is a cha chaan teng, a Hong Kong-style cafe, at 392 London Rd in Reading. Hong Kong-style iconic photos and MTR stations cover the walls, so the dining room follows a Hong Kong theme from corner to corner. The menu includes beef chow fun, satay beef noodles with peanut bits and Hong Kong-style French toast. Breakfast runs all day, so fried eggs and sausages are available at any hour the kitchen is open. The cafe opens every day except Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Weekends usually bring a wait for a table, and some dishes sell out. Dogs are welcome, so owners can bring a pet along.

Customer Review Summary
Hong Kong-style French toast is the dish diners name most, described as thick and fluffy, crispy outside and soft inside, and served with butter and syrup. Close behind are the satay beef noodles, praised for thick, tender beef and crunchy peanut bits, and the beef chow fun, which one reviewer orders every visit and another credits with wok hei and a lack of grease. The scallion oil chicken rice, the cheese bake pork chop fried rice, the all-day breakfast and the milk tea also earn mentions, along with generous portions and quick, friendly service. The caveats are crowds and availability. Weekends get very busy, one Sunday visitor waited briefly for a table, and a takeaway customer found a lot of dishes sold out. One reviewer expected a richer tomato flavor from the baked tomato pork rice. Another, waiting on an order, noticed that everyone else in the room was speaking Cantonese and took it as a sign the food was authentic.

“One of the most authentic HK cafe you will ever find. Decoration is full of HK style with iconic photos and MTR stations dotted round the walls. Service is always great and food is always delicious with good portion. That is probably why it can get very busy during the weekends. Instead of recommending any specific dish here, I would suggest you go there and try everything on its menu.”

“Love this place! The beef chow fun is sooo good — we order it every single time 😂 I always ask if it’s available when I book a table! My boys love the French toast and the chicken steak rice with spring onion oil. Always tasty and great for a family meal 😊”

“I went in to order some dishes to take away - a lot had sold out but the hosts were very polite and made some great recommendations. I sat down to wait and realised everyone apart from me was speaking Cantonese. The first time I have experienced that in a British restaurant and it told me that the food was authentic. The dishes we had were great, definitely going back.”
