Quick info
About DIM SUM HUT
Dim Sum Hut is a dim sum restaurant on Commercial Road in Portsmouth that serves its dumplings fresh from the kitchen rather than from frozen. The menu reaches beyond the standard basket range, with items such as roast duck, beef tripe, and steamed buns whose dough the kitchen gets particular credit for. Plates of beef hot pot and egg fried rice round out the order alongside the dim sum selection. The room is set up on a walk-in basis, and the staff have been known to seat diners with dogs in a tucked-away section of the dining room.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often return for the dim sum itself, with several calling it delicious and one saying it is made in house rather than frozen and comparable to what is found in Asian countries. Close behind are the buns, where one reviewer praises the dough, and the beef tripe dim sum, described as perfectly cooked and full of flavour. The roast duck is called crispy, flavourful and not oily, and another diner enjoyed a beef hot pot and egg fried rice, noting the crunchy chilli and fluffy rice. Service is described as quick, efficient and lovely, and a family with teenagers calls it very good value. The main caveat comes from one reviewer, who found the non-dim sum dishes a little disappointing on a dinner visit and suggests some of those dishes are less practiced by the chef. Another notes it was loud on a bank holiday with families and big parties, which they expected. One group brought a well-behaved dog and the staff seated them in a hidden corner so they could eat comfortably.

“Food was delicious, service was great. Was a bit loud when we went but it was a bank holiday and there were families and big parties so expected. Really recommend the buns, the dough was really good.”

“I believe their dim sum are made at house (not that frozen one) and this is important to customers. The variety of dimsum is very comparable to those in Asian countries. The quality is fair especially considering are not commonly available in the UK. Worth to try. By the way the price is acceptable as some others their bill may be similar but the food is terrible. My second time is for a dinner with my friend. I have to be honest for the dishes (not dimsum), the quality is a little bit disappointed but still it is within acceptable level. I think the issues are: non Asian customers cannot tell the difference; some dishes are not popular and the chef have not practiced for a while”
