Customer Review Summary
The King Hiramasa Mini Don draws particular praise, described as beautifully presented on a bamboo bowl with sashimi served two ways, chopped and sliced, for contrasting textures. Close behind, reviewers highlight the salt and pepper shrimp, Wagyu rice, and cocktails, along with a fair vegetarian selection. Several describe the space as small, with counter seating where diners can watch the chef, and note the atmosphere and staff as a strong part of the experience, with one calling the setting the centrepiece of the evening rather than a quick bite. One reviewer flags the food as pricier than other local sushi spots but worthwhile for a celebratory meal. Against this, two reviews strike a harsher note: one reviewer reports a poor experience with an appetizer platter, and another alleges a manager mistreated staff, though praising the sushi and food quality otherwise. One diner recalls staff remaking a drink they weren't sure about without complaint.

“I ordered the King Hiramasa Mini Don, which was beautifully presented on a tray decorated with a flower. The rice was served in a bamboo bowl and topped with fresh Hiramasa sashimi. Half of the sashimi was sliced into bite-sized pieces, while the other half was finely chopped and mixed with spring onion and sesame, creating two textures and flavours in one dish. A small bunch of cress was placed in the centre as a garnish, adding a nice finishing touch. The fish was exceptionally fresh and had a delicate natural sweetness. The soy sauce provided was quite salty, so I wouldn’t recommend pouring all of it over the rice, as it can easily overpower the umami flavour of the fish. The restaurant itself is relatively small but features a traditional Japanese counter seating area where customers can watch the chef prepare the food. It was quite busy when I visited on a weekend, which speaks to its popularity. The food was prepared fresh to order, and the presentation was impressive from start to finish. Overall, it was a very enjoyable dining experience with high-quality ingredients, thoughtful presentation, and an authentic Japanese atmosphere. I would happily return to try some of the other dishes on the menu.”

“Highly recommend this restaurant for a special occasion. We booked in advance for a Friday night, as it’s quite a small restaurant, but we were the only ones there which meant we got to pick where we wanted to sit at the bar. The food was simple yet rich and the quality of the meat/seafood was great. On the pricer side compared to other local sushi restaurants, but it was a nice treat for a celebratory meal. The waitresses were friendly and the ambience in the restaurant was nice too”

“Possibly the most authentic Japanese food I’ve had in the UK. The food is delicious and fabulously well presented and the setting of the restaurant is excellent; very small, but feels just right for the experience. It’s not somewhere you go for a quick bite, it’s more of the centrepiece of the evening. Absolute love it, I’ve been here twice and would recommend to anybody.”
