About The Tenth Hole

The Tenth Hole is a tea and coffee shop on Eastern Parade in Portsmouth, overlooking a golf course and right next to a pitch and putt. It opens in the daytime and serves breakfast until 12, then moves to lunch. The morning menu includes breakfast rolls and breakfast wraps, and the Bacon and Brie Doorstop is built on doorstep bread. Lattes and chai latte sit on the drinks list. A large array of freshly made cakes is on display just inside the entrance. Ordering is done at the counter inside: guests find a table, take a table number, then place their order.

Customer Review Summary

Cakes are the main draw, with reviewers repeatedly pointing to the large display of freshly made slices at the entrance and an extensive range to choose from. A fruit cheesecake is praised as not too sweet, while a banoffee brownie was judged good but too sweet. Lattes and coffee get steady approval, and breakfast dishes such as the breakfast wrap, vegetarian breakfast and breakfast roll are described as delicious, alongside a bacon and brie doorstop and a quiche of the day. Several mention friendly staff, water bowls and treats for dogs, seating under cover and a pitch and putt close by. Cost is the recurring complaint. A few call it pricey for what arrives, one reviewer paying extra for onion and tomato in a cheese toastie that came with crisps, another finding a sausage butty on doorstep bread daunting without warning, plus a chai that tasted odd and was left. Others say the food meets the quality. One reviewer describes the owner reopening after closing time to return a bag holding ID papers before a ferry.

“A lovely little cafe with a good amount of seating under cover. Menu is amazing with breakfast selection available until 12 and then lunch. Breakfast wrap and vegetarian breakfast were delicious. Parking is free for 4 hours outside and there is a pitch and putt.”

“My friends and I had lunch here and I took my dog along too. We had a Quiche of the day, a Bacon and Brie Doorstop and a Chicken Caesar Wrap. We all had different soft drinks and a different slice of cake from their extensive range. Everything was delicious and well presented. They had water bowls and dog treats readily available for your furry friends. Really enjoy all the food and the staff were friendly and very helpful. One of our party has some food allergies which they were able to accommodate. Lovely place to relax and enjoy a leisurely lunch. We will definitely be back and wouldn't hesitate to recommend The Tenth Hole to family and friends 👍👍👍”

“Came with a friend to celebrate a great day so of course girls gotta get cake and coffee 😅 The caffe latte was great and my friend was very pleased with her drink too. The fruit cheesecake was so delicious too, not too sweet, so exactly how I like it. My friend on the other hand got a banoffee brownie (at least I hope that’s how it’s called) which was good, but a bit too sweet even for her tastes. Feels like the cake would do better with whipped cream instead of butter cream. Otherwise no complaints. The location is pretty, overlooking a golf course and the staff are very friendly too. 😊”

“Lovely cafe (we're not first time visitors), whether you're sitting inside or outside under the cover. It's a cafe where you look for a table, get the number and then order inside....this is where you can't help but notice the huge array of freshly made cakes, wow! Good service, clean tables and blankets if you need. The sausage butty was filled with delicious sausages, but it was made with crusty loaf doorstep bread, which was daunting for both of us, let alone the wife with a smaller appetite. Would have been nice to have been informed of this or given the choice of doorstep, bap, sliced bead etc. We also choose Billy's Breakfast Burger which was cracking, just perfect. A portion (3 pieces) of hash browns to share - again very nice and yummy. Drinks were a latte (lovely) and a Chai latte - unfortunately this tasted very weird to our normal, expected chai, so much so, the wife left it. Overall very nice but we felt it a expensive,£33.30 for what we got at the quality we got.”
