Quick info
About The Grasshopper
The Grasshopper is a restaurant in Poole at 139-141 Bournemouth Rd, with a restaurant area and a bar to choose between. The decoration is eclectic, with plenty of corners and a fire. The menu includes a pizza topped with nduja chicken, and the Sunday roast comes with roast beef, roast potatoes and a Yorkie. Cauliflower cheese and pigs in blankets are optional extras. Grasshopper beer is on offer at the bar. A function room upstairs seats up to 32 and hosts monthly Paint and Prosecco art nights, which gives groups a separate space for an evening out.

Customer Review Summary
Sunday roast is what reviewers mention most, and the verdicts split. One diner calls the roast beef cracking, another found it ok but wanted it hotter with thicker gravy, and a third reports two roast potatoes that were black and could not be eaten. Close behind, diners praise the fish and chips, the nduja chicken pizza, the Grasshopper beer, the nachos and a nourish bowl with chicken. A family notes generous portions and a children's menu that left both plates cleared, and a colouring pack for the youngest guest. Reviewers repeatedly describe friendly, polite staff, and several like the pub's two areas, the fireplace and the eclectic decoration. The caveats centre on kitchen quality. One reviewer says they watched the burnt crust of a pie scraped off and the mash had a chewy skin, with the burger patty overcooked. Another found a breakfast and pint too small and the staff member rude about a missing table number. One diner found no toilet paper in two cubicles, and the young man who was told thanked them.

“⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Mary-Lou is an absolute gem and one of the main reasons we love visiting the Grasshopper. She is always so welcoming, friendly, and genuinely makes everyone feel at home from the moment they walk through the door. Nothing is ever too much trouble, and her warm personality and excellent service make every visit a pleasure. It's rare to come across someone who consistently goes above and beyond with such a smile. A real credit to the Grasshopper – thank you, Mary-Lou, for always making us feel so welcome!”

“We had a very late lunch yesterday we weren’t the easiest of guests as we had to move our booking on more than one occasion due to conflicting family pressures. Each time the team were polite and accommodating. When we eventually arrived we were greeted well, our youngest guest was given a colouring pack whilst we waited for the rest of our party. The food was lovely, generous portions, the children’s menu also good and the two children’s meals ordered were shared between them - both plates cleared.”

“I'm running Monthly Paint and Prosecco Nights at The Grasshopper Pub, and David and the team have been amazing. Everyone who comes to these fun evenings gets great service when they order their free drink from the bar and is welcomed by the staff there. The Function Room upstairs is a great space and perfect for the popular Art Nights, as it seats up to 32 people. Thank you to the team for making the evening run so smoothly!”
