Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often point to the staff and the welcome, describing friendly, fast service and a clean, roomy pub, with ordering through the app described as easy and quick. Food draws mixed comments: one reviewer enjoyed a panini and another praised fresh, hot dishes, while a one-star account reports cold chicken, very dry meats and a breakfast with no eggs on toast and no pancakes. The same reviewer says the manager would not fetch a note from another till to give change from a twenty, and that the toilet locks don't exist. Another reviewer describes slow service on a quiet Thursday night and lager served in a plastic glass. Others like the choice of drinks, free coffee refills, free wifi and the large venue over two floors with an outdoor area. A few mention a busy weekend crowd, and one notes a small entrance fee late on weekends when a DJ and dancefloor run. One reviewer says staff and management calmly de-escalated an issue at the bar.

“Excellent Experience at The Union Rooms – Plymouth We were on holiday in Plymouth and visited The Union Rooms, just five minutes away from The Gog and Magog. The difference in our experience was honestly remarkable. The team at The Union Rooms treated us with warmth, respect and professionalism from the moment we arrived. We felt genuinely welcomed and enjoyed our visit. Having visited many Wetherspoon pubs during our travels, we can honestly say that The Union Rooms was a much better experience than The Gog and Magog. The customer service and attitude of the team made such a positive difference. After our disappointing experience at The Gog and Magog, it was refreshing to visit The Union Rooms and be treated so well. We would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Plymouth. Thank you to the team at The Union Rooms for making us feel so welcome. 👏 @WetherspoonOfficial @Tim Martin”

“Happy to serve me even with my weird requests of a banana with the skin left on and not chopped ( dessert option usually chopped on the kids menu ) and to go with my coffee .... I also like a tonic water and side dishes sometimes as someone high sensory who likes to drink and chew at the same time they really accommodate me with my alien needs thankyou so much xx”

“Spotless toilets thanks to Margaret Serving staff excellent, especially Helen and Keira. Ordering via the app is easy, but you can also order at the bar. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Value for money, and free coffee refills. Also has free wifi.”

“Recently came to visit some friends this weekend in Plymouth and we decided to go here for some food and drinks. The place was nice and clean, staff were welcoming and fast (can’t go wrong with a spoons). There was an issue going on at the bar but management and staff de-escalated the situation well, felt bad for them to be honest. Would recommend this place for anyone round and about in Plymouth .”

“Absolutely fantastic experience from start to finish! The staff were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and attentive throughout the whole visit. Service was amazingly quick without ever feeling rushed, and everyone went out of their way to make sure we were looked after. The food quality was outstanding — everything came out fresh, hot, and full of flavour. You can really tell care and attention goes into every dish. The portion sizes were generous, presentation was spot on, and every bite was delicious. There was also a fantastic range of drinks available, with plenty of alcoholic and non-alcoholic options to choose from. There’s something for everyone! The atmosphere was brilliant as well, clean, comfortable, and perfect for a relaxing meal or drinks with friends and family. Easily one of the best pub/restaurant experiences we’ve had in a long time. Highly recommend to anyone looking for great food, excellent service, amazing drinks, and a genuinely enjoyable experience. Will definitely be coming back soon — 5 stars all the way!”
