About Cafe Tabou
Cafe Tabou is a French restaurant in Perth city centre, a brasserie at 4 St John's Pl next to St John's Kirk. Steak nights run on Tuesday and Wednesday, with chateaubriand and a steak for two on the menu for diners sharing a table. The kitchen builds its French dishes around Scottish produce, and the seafood bisque comes with croutons and a choice of gruyere or rouille. A three-course set menu is offered, and the cheese course can be added as an extra or taken as part of the set. The restaurant works on a walk-in basis. Wine is poured by the carafe and by the bottle.

Customer Review Summary
Steak is what diners return to Cafe Tabou for most, from the chateaubriand to a steak for two described as tender and cutting like butter, and another with crispy chips and juicy mushrooms. Close behind is the set menu, where reviewers single out the seafood bisque with gruyere and croutons, pan-fried corn-fed chicken with crispy parma ham, and a pork belly with potato gratin and black pudding. A medallions dish and a duck starter also earn praise, and the cheese course and a house red carafe come up as well. Servers are called friendly, relaxed and prompt, and one wheelchair user describes staff helping with doors and an accessible toilet that fits a large power-chair. Value is mostly praised, though one reviewer calls it slightly more expensive than other places nearby. One suggests booking ahead for evenings, while another walked in on a Saturday and found a few tables left. A recurring detail is the midweek deals, with a couple travelling to Perth for two nights to have the steak on one evening and the set menu on the other.

“We visited a few years ago and loved it and had always wanted to return. They do a steak night on Tuesday and Wednesday so we booked the local travelodge for two nights and booked the restaurant for both nights. We had the chateubriand on the Tues and the set menu on the Wednesday. Both nights were excellent, just as good as we remembered. The food is top quality, great portions and excellent value. It was definitely worth our time staying in Perth for two nights and if you're in the area it's a no brainer.”

“Amazing food here. I particularly recommend the steaks, they are 100% worth it, and delicious! Service was great! Servers were friendly, professional, relaxed, and more than happy to help if you asked for anything else. Lovely atmosphere to the restaurant. Would recommend! £30-£50 per person (I’m basing this off the steak prices) or slightly less if you don’t go for steaks. Parking at canal street is a great option to get here easily!”

“Located right next to the historic St John's Kirk in Perth city centre, Cafe Tabou is an absolute gem of a French brasserie. I had a wonderful five-star dining experience here. As an electric wheelchair user, I was impressed by the excellent level of disabled access with staff quick to help with doors going in and out. The entrance is completely smooth, the indoor layout is just about spacious enough to navigate,, and they have an accessible toilet that easily accommodates larger power-chairs. The staff were incredibly nice, welcoming, and accommodating from start to finish. The food was absolutely lovely. I ordered from their fantastic set menu, starting with refreshing aperitifs followed up with large bottle of sparkling water and a half-carafe of wine to accompany my food. First was a rich, authentic Fish & Seafood Bisque complete with garlic croutons and saffron rouille, followed by a spectacular Pan-Fried Breast of Corn-Fed Chicken main course with crispy parma ham. Because I wanted to try everything, I also added their beautiful Cheese Platter as an extra course, which came beautifully presented on slate with quince paste, chutney, and grapes. I was quite full by the end, so I finished with a refreshing Trio de Glaces ice cream served with a sesame tuile. The atmosphere was lively and full of character. I highly recommend Cafe Tabou for top-tier food and stress-free access in Perth!”

“My Husband and I visited Cafe Tabou for the first time on Saturday, we just walked in off the high street without booking and we were so lucky that there were a few tables left. The food was the best 3 courses we’d had in a long time.Every single course had been well thought out and prepared to the highest standard. The Chef/Chefs and staff are worth their weight in gold. It’s very rare to find decent service but at Cafe Tabou the servers are friendly, prompt and super efficient. I didn’t take photos but I will next time.”
