About Barley Mow Inn
Barley Mow Inn is a gastropub in Oswestry on Chapel Ln, set on the Offa's Dyke Path and used as a stop by walkers. Sunday lunch is served as a carvery with the chef doing the serving, and gluten-free gravy is provided. A specials board adds dishes such as the Wild Boar & Pork Hotdog, while the regular menu runs to chips and fries, a burger and a sea bass special. The bar pours real ales, lagers and IPAs. Breakfast is served as well, so the kitchen covers more than the main meals. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Sunday lunch draws the most praise, with reviewers describing a carvery served by the chef, everything on the plate tasty, and gluten free gravy provided for a party member who could not have the Yorkshire pudding or stuffing. Close behind are the pub meals, including the signature burger, a sea bass special and a wild boar and pork hotdog from the specials board, with proper chips singled out. Breakfast also gets a mention from walkers passing through. Reviewers also praise well kept real ales and lagers, and many call the staff friendly and attentive. The complaints are about service. One reviewer, a regular supporter of the pub, says a bar worker told a barmaid to serve a regular ahead of a customer already waiting, and felt unwelcome as a non-regular. Another found a waitress unsure of the hot chocolate order, with drinks that were not very creamy. One visitor found no food available that day, though the beer and welcome were warm. Several describe the staff as welcoming, and one party's gluten free needs were handled at the carvery.

“Excellent breakfast, lovely owners, great pub. A great place to refuel on the Offa's Dyke Path! So glad they're now open during the day and serving breakfast 🙂”

“Not welcoming to non-regulars whatsoever. My partner waited patiently at the bar for 15 minutes as the pub was busy, a blonde barmaid asked “who’s next” and my partner said he was, as it was his turn to be served, barmaid started to serve my partner but a bar man named Stuart instructed her not to serve my partner but serve a regular who’d just arrived at the bar instead. We went to the pub, as we do every year, for Trefonen’s fantastic firework display, we had three pints before the firework show when Stuart complained to anyone who would listen that the pub was busy because of “people who only f word come out once a year, you never see them otherwise”, as well as stating he was going to charge cars to park and give it to Hope House and “see who still f word parks here then” rather than appreciating any customer spending £30-40 in your pub. We live in a neighbouring village and support our local village pub three to four nights a week.”

“I made a visit with a group of friends last Friday evening, we all had an excellent night, the pub has a lovely atmosphere about it & its well laid out, all the staff were lovely, efficient & very personable, myself & a couple of the guys certainly enjoyed our end of night chat with the landlord Andy, we had a great discussion regarding the the already good selection of ales they have on offer & where they may go with a couple of them in the future. Early in the evening 9 of us sat down for a meal & between us made a good selection from across the menu, all agreed, the meals were excellent, tasty, plentiful, great ingredients & good value for money, I can certainly recommend the Wild Boar & Pork Hotdog off the specials board, a real play on the taste buds 👍 service was brilliant. I shall be making a return visit in the not too distant future. Thank you, a real team effort. I wish I’d taken some photos!”
