About Bramley's Coffee House
Bramley's Coffee House is a cafe in Ormskirk, set in Church Walks off the high street at 6 Church St, and it has been serving customers for over 20 years. The 166-item menu runs from breakfasts and light lunches to a handmade afternoon tea prepared in-house, with sandwich fillings including Coronation Chicken and Smoked Salmon And Cream Cheese. Cakes and scones are homemade, and the scones come with clotted cream and jam. Food is cooked fresh, and the menu asks for at least 30 minutes. A double-sided gluten free menu and vegetarian and vegan options cover a range of dietary needs. Seating is on two floors, upstairs and downstairs, and dogs are welcome. A small play area gives children crayons and colouring sheets.

Customer Review Summary
Friendly staff come up in nearly every review, described as attentive and kind even when the cafe is packed. Diners single out the handmade afternoon tea, chosen for two baby showers where staff decorated the table area, along with homemade cakes, scones with clotted cream and jam, and the Bramley lunch special, called filling. Others mention eggs benedict, gingerbread lattes, huge portions and a double sided gluten free menu, plus crayons and a colouring sheet for children. The complaints centre on crowds and cost. Seating gets tight on market days, and food can take longer when the cafe is full, so one reviewer suggests booking, especially on Thursday and Saturday. One finds it pricey for a cafe and was told a black coffee was an Americano, another wanted streaky bacon with the pancakes, and one felt the vegan and gluten free range was limited. During one busy visit, a staff member rang a diner out shopping to say their table was ready.

“Tucked away in the Church Walk arcade just off Church Street, Bramley’s Coffee House is one of those charming, independent local spots that quickly feels like a familiar favourite. It offers a warm, traditional tearoom atmosphere that makes a welcome change from the sterile, cookie-cutter feel of big high-street coffee chains. Atmosphere & Service The ambiance inside is cozy and inviting, featuring classic décor, comfortable seating, and a relaxed pace. It’s an ideal venue for a quiet morning coffee, catch-up lunch with family, or a mid-afternoon slice of cake. The staff are consistently friendly, welcoming, and attentive, ensuring visitors feel right at home from the moment they step through the door. Food & Drink Quality Where Bramley’s truly shines is in its traditional food offerings. Their homemade cakes, fresh scones with clotted cream and jam, and light lunch options—such as freshly prepared sandwiches, soups, and toasted panini—are simple, satisfying, and generous. The coffee is rich and served piping hot, and their selection of teas complements the classic afternoon tea feel perfectly. Areas for Improvement To keep the perspective balanced, there are a few minor trade-offs to keep in mind: Limited Space: Because the café is quaint and popular, seating can get tight during peak hours (especially on market days). Finding a table for larger groups without a short wait can sometimes be tricky. Classic Menu Focus: The menu focuses heavily on traditional British café classics. While executed well, those seeking adventurous specialty coffee roasts or extensive contemporary vegan/gluten-free food ranges might find the options a bit limited compared to modern specialty coffee shops. Pace During Busy Times: When the café reaches full capacity, food preparation can take a touch longer, though the quality of the fresh food makes it worth the wait. Final Verdict Bramley’s Coffee House delivers a delightful, authentic independent café experience in the heart of Ormskirk. Its combination of friendly service, delicious homemade baked goods, and cozy atmosphere easily outweighs minor space constraints, making it a reliable choice for anyone looking to support a local business.”

“Love it here! Used to go a lot when I was younger and popped in today with a group to see what it was like now! AMAZING gluten free menu (double sided) very inclusive menu and HUGE portion sizes. Will be going again! Thank you to the lovely staff who were kind and quick.”

“We booked the venue for a baby shower for a small group. Christine was so helpful, friendly and professional from start to finish, replying to all my queries straight away and helping me sort out all the details. The venue itself is so beautiful and the afternoon tea was gorgeous, you can tell the food is handmade and prepared in-house. Nothing was too much trouble and the staff were all really friendly and attentive. I would highly recommend to everyone booking any small events or gatherings! Will definitely be back for a weekend visit soon :)”

“Great customer service, served be a very friendly girl on Saturday morning. First time visiting, it is really good for the kids as well with a small play area. Was given crayons and a colouring sheet as well which seems to be a forgotten thing lately. Food was pretty good although I'd say the pancakes should come with streaky bacon instead of normal rashers! Will definitely visit again”
