Customer Review Summary

Salt and pepper chips come up most often, praised by several reviewers as lovely and recommended outright, with curry dishes also called nice. Close behind are the fast delivery and the friendly, patient staff who never rush ordering. One reviewer describes a big special chow mien portion for the price, and another lists fried rice, orange chicken, black pepper beef and sweet and sour chicken balls as all delivered on time. A partner loved the crispy beef. Complaints are sharper. One reviewer found the tofu dry enough to leave uneaten, and another received an incorrect order with dry chicken. Three one-star reviews describe an order cancelled with hours of notice, which the business reportedly said was already being prepared. Reviewers say no food and no refund followed, and they report a hostile phone call in which the caller was called "stupid." One reviewer says a delivery never arrived and the call ended with a click.

“Certified Chinese person by blood, so you know I know what I'm talking about; food was very good, we ordered the fried rice, tofu, orange chicken black pepper beef and mixed veg with sweet sour chicken balls, every single dish delivered, affordable and came on time. Will definitely order from Hong Kong House again! Mm Goi!”

“Best of the Chinese takeaways I’ve tried in Nottingham/Beeston. Always quick delivery and flavourful dishes - I’ve always had a good meal here”

“There is a quiet excitement in ordering food. A small promise you make to yourself that, later, something warm and satisfying will arrive at your door. Mine began four hours early. Careful. Considered. Almost hopeful. The kind of simple plan you trust not to go wrong. But within thirty minutes, life shifted - so I cancelled. Calmly, reasonably, with 3.5 hours still stretching ahead like open road. In any honest kitchen, nothing would have even begun. No flames lit. No pans touched. No effort wasted. Except, according to Hong Kong House, everything already had. They claimed my food was in preparation. Already cooking. Already committed. As if time itself had bent for them - as if they had rushed to prepare a meal hours before it was ever needed. And if that were true (if they truly had made it then) what was I meant to receive? A cold, stale shadow of a meal? Something left to sit, to sweat, to decay in a box for hours before reaching me? It doesn’t make sense. It never did. Because this wasn’t truth. It was an excuse. And with that excuse, they took my money and closed the door. When I called, I wasn’t angry -not yet. I was expecting, at the very least, a conversation. Some shred of decency. A moment of understanding. Instead, I was met with something sharp, immediate, and unapologetic. Hostility. No explanation. No accountability. Just a voice that cut over mine, dismissing, belittling - and then, plainly, calling me “stupid.” As if questioning something so obviously wrong made me the problem. As if I should accept being taken advantage of in silence. And that’s the moment everything changed. It stopped being about food. It stopped being about money. It became about being disrespected, outright and without hesitation, by a business that didn’t just fail - but chose to. A choice to lie. A choice to keep what wasn’t theirs. A choice to treat a customer not as a person, but as something disposable. There was no food. No refund. No apology. Just the hollow, infuriating reality of being dismissed and spoken down to - as though fairness was too much to ask. Some takeaways leave you disappointed. Hong Kong House leaves you angry - and worse, unheard.”

“Honestly one of my favourite takeaways in the area! The salt and pepper chips are absolutely recommended! Their curry dishes are also nice. Staff are always friendly and patient, never feel rushed when ordering. Food’s ready before you know it. I'm here pretty much every week at this point. Highly recommend!”

“I didn’t even place the order, I just watched it happen right in front of me. She ordered hours in advance, properly planned, something small to look forward to. Then plans changed and she cancelled within 30 minutes, calmly, with over three hours’ notice. Completely reasonable. They said the food was already being prepared. We just looked at each other. Because how does that even make sense? Three and a half hours early? It sounded like time had bent just for them. She called, still calm, just asking a simple question. That’s when it changed. The tone flipped like a switch. Sharp. Dismissive. No explanation, no help. Just hostility filling the room like a bad smell you can’t ignore. I could hear it from across the room. She was spoken over, talked down to, and then actually called “stupid.” I watched her face fall in real time, like the air had been let out of the whole evening. Excited, then confused, then embarrassed, then just… quiet. It was her birthday. No food. No refund. No apology. Just money gone and the mood completely drained, like someone had pulled the plug on the night. I’ve never seen anything handled like that. It wasn’t just bad service, it left the whole room feeling heavy.”
