Customer Review Summary

The complaints are specific. One reviewer found the mushroom oddly sweet and unfinishable, while another reports a mushroom full of liquid, rock hard sourdough toast, watery scrambled egg and a long wait in a quiet cafe. Two describe unfriendly staff, including a pair of matcha drinkers who say they were repeatedly warned about taking up space in a near-empty room and left after being refused a move to free tables. Another reviewer called a side of avocado overpriced, and one found the coffee could have been hotter.

“Me and my friend came in to get a matcha, the cafe was pretty much empty with multiple tables free. Ordered two drinks, repeatedly threatened by staff that we were not ordering anything else and taking up space, despite spethe cafe being empty. Our friend came in and she was told she couldn’t sit with us, we were also not allowed to move to any of the free tables. We eventually left after half an hour because we did not feel welcome. The girl working was very rude and hostile. We are very disappointed with the drinks we had, £11 for two matchas.”

“Nice and cosy inside, if the staff like the look of you then service looks ok, but if not attitude creeps in. Some of their policies around where to order and where to pay seem designed to catch you out so they can bark at you when you dare to get it wrong . Food is bang average and far too complicated for the skill level in the kitchen. Would be better if they had the sense to keep it simple. Example; my mushroom had been tampered with to the point that it no longer tased like a mushroom, it was weirdly sweet and I couldn’t actually finish it. Just put the mushroom in the pan with the butter, it will do the rest. I bet people swear by this place if they catch the staff on a good day and find a menu item that has not been ruined by over complication, but overall it’s definitely not for me with so many other good breakfast options in the area. Oh and they charge £4.95 for a side of avocado which is wild (they sell them for 90p in Park Stores over the road 😂).”

“Arrived and it's a bit snug. Ordered breakfast and waited quite a while even though it wasn't busy. Coffee was very nice. Quality of food was good but mushroom full of liquid soughdough toast rock hard and in general it was a wet breakfast in respect it just oozed liquid which just put off returning. This is a nice cafe and maybe I was just unlucky but the prices they charge should reflect on the overall standard and quality. Scrambled egg was holding way too much liquid and the time factor was just awful. Please have a rethink on this matter.”

“Toast is my comfort place. I always go there whenever I am craving an amazing breakfast. I have had their creamy and garlic mushroom toast which I order “every single time” I go to Toast and pair it with a white chocolate mocha which is too delicious to miss. Their breakfast bagel is also really nice. Highly recommend to go try this cute cafe on Derby Road.”
