Correo Lounge is a brunch restaurant in Newport, at 99 High St, in an old building with a green and brick front. Inside, a high-ceilinged lounge bar with exposed beams and pictures on the wall leads back to a sheltered terrace with stained glass panels and twinkly lights. A separate vegan menu lists a vegan burger and a vegan Panang curry, vegan cakes are available, and gluten-free options cover coeliacs. A cocktail menu runs alongside the food. Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often return to the gluten-free and vegan choices, with the vegan burger singled out as full of flavor and a separate vegan menu making plant-based dishes easy to find. One reviewer with coeliac needs found the staff reassuring and knowledgeable. Close behind is the tapas trio of duck pancakes, whipped feta and chicken goujons with chipotle dip, served extra hot, and a cocktail menu and brunch that others praise. Several describe the open, high-ceilinged room and fast, friendly service, and a few call the prices reasonable. The caveat is availability and consistency. One group found many menu items missing and the only bitter on tap sold out, so one person did not eat and another did not drink. A vegan diner found the tapas salty, the noodles tasting of packet seasoning, the fried cauliflower in thick batter, and several vegan cakes unavailable. Others mention that one party's dogs each got a chopped-up sausage.

“A nice spacious lounge bar. Service was good. We ordered at the table with the QR code. Nice & easy & quick. Had brunch which was really nice, drinks & coffees. We also ordered a sausage for each of the dogs, which they chopped up for us. A nice chilled atmosphere. Background music, but not too loud. Toilets were nice & clean.”

“A lovely restaurant with a great atmosphere, so we had high hopes for the food. We were also really impressed with the separate vegan menu, which made it easy to see the plant-based options available. I ordered the vegan Panang curry, which had good flavour and was enjoyable. My daughter ordered a selection of tapas, but unfortunately they were quite salty. My partner had the noodles, which tasted as though they had been made with packet seasoning rather than fresh ingredients. They were served with battered fried cauliflower, but the batter was far too thick, and the cauliflower itself lacked flavour. The staff were lovely and friendly throughout our visit, although they seemed very busy. It was also a little disappointing that several of the vegan cakes were unavailable when we visited. Overall, it’s a welcoming restaurant with a lovely ambience and excellent staff, but we felt the food wasn’t good. While some dishes were enjoyable, others didn’t quite meet our expectations.”

“Came to The island for work and after some walking around I settled on Correo lounge. I love the open, high ceiling of this place. Vibrant decor and a chilled playlist is very much my vibe. I settled on the tapas trio. Duck pancakes, whipped feta and chicken goujons with a chipotle dip… obviously an extra garlic bread to get my carb fix. The food was delicious, served extra hot and perfect taster portions for me. Would definitely recommend.”

“Bit disappointed. Went in for drinks which was good, so the next day went back for food. Menu had a lot of items missing so one of the four didn't eat. They also had run out of the only on tap bitter they serve, so one didn't drink (four lagers not really the same). Food served was good though, but wouldn't go back and risk the lack of items available.”

“Green and brick-fronted Correo Lounge is in a fine old building in the middle of the High Street, in the heart of Newport. Inside, we’ve got a cosy front area that continues through to a really impressive airy space – all high ceilings, exposed beams and industrial lights with tall, leafy plants. The full-height windows at the back then open out further onto a sheltered, sunny terrace festooned with stained glass panels and twinkly lights. Just perfect for those long summers’ evenings on the island.”
