About Village Fish Bar
In Gosport, Village Fish Bar is a fish and chips takeaway at 13 Little Ln, run entirely from a counter with no tables. The menu centres on fish and chips, with cod and chips as one of the options, and curry sauce is also available. Sausages and chicken fillets round out the choices for anyone who wants something other than fish. The fish is cooked ahead and held in the oven, so orders come straight off the counter. A queue forms at busy times.

Customer Review Summary
Cod and chips is the centerpiece for most reviewers, with the fish called perfectly cooked and good quality, and the batter described as lovely. Close behind are the chips, one reviewer calling them banging, and a great curry sauce, while chicken fillets also get a mention. Staff come up repeatedly as friendly, polite and efficient, and several say the food is consistently good and reasonably priced, with one noting a family of four was fed for good value. Two reviewers were far less pleased. One found the chips tired and the batter heavy with no crispiness. The other described overcooked cod that was hard to cut, below average chips and sausages with a hard skin. Both suspected food had been sitting out since earlier in the day. Even so, two reviewers describe a busy queue that clears quickly once staff get going.

“Perfectly cooked cod and chips, fish was good quality, thoroughly enjoyed it, queue was quite long when I got there but went down quickly, the staff are really efficient”

“This was my fifth visit in the 12 months I have lived in the area, and sadly the food has failed to live up to all of the hype on each occasion. The chips were very tired and lacked the traditional taste that you would expect in a quality Chippy. The fish was also a disappointment. The batter was heavy and lacked any crispiness. I obviously paid the penalty for an early visit (5 o clock) as it was obvious from the speed of service that everything had been sitting around and ready to go for far too long. Very disappointing. and my last visit.”

“Wonderful local fish bar. Great food served by lovely people”

“Visited tonight for a large chips, large cod and sausages to share. Without a doubt the very worst chip shop in the area. The cod was running with fat in the paper but the cod was almost impossible to cut because it was so badly overcooked. The chips were below average and the sausages had a very hard skin. I think some of the cooked items had been on the shelf for some time or the remains from the lunchtimes offerings. Absolutely disgusting and would not return here.”

“A staple of Alverstoke and a lovely take-away restaurant. This venue has no tables but is worth the stop in/socialization for a classic fish & chips (or chicken fillets).”
