Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often point to the cod and chips, with several describing hot, fresh, crisp fish that one calls the best in years, and another served with mushy peas, tartare sauce and a slice of lemon to eat at the beach. Friendly staff and fast service come up alongside it, and one reviewer says ordering in advance through the website suits busy periods. The mobile catering van earns praise for light crispy batter, scampi, sausages and a large veggie spring roll at a big party. The complaints are sharper and recent. Two reviewers say fish and chips arrived cold and dripping with grease, and another found the batter greasy and the chips poor quality and not hot, with one noting the shop seems to have slipped over the past several months. Others object to cost, saying a large fish and medium chips felt flat and not large for the money, and one reviewer returned a mostly uneaten meal to the bin. One reviewer who found it good value said they would happily pay more.

“The Vintage Fish Trailer. Absolutely exceptional. The Vintage Fish Trailer was recommended to us and we would 100 percent recommend to others. From our first enquiry months ago, to our meeting with Ashley to view the van and on to our event last Sunday we have nothing but praise for this company. Our party was a little bit different as it was the centenary of our home. Ashley listened to our requests and tailored everything exactly to our wishes. Communication throughout the whole process was excellent, we were kept informed and updated. We were able to choose our own menu choices and adapt them for the wide variety of the 120 adults and children who attended. On the day they arrived very punctually, set up and cooked and served over 100 meals with humour and politeness. The van, which is spotlessly clean, looked amazing in our country lane setting, and was the perfect backdrop to our large garden/field party... and as for the food.....we had SO MANY satisfied happy guests. Many many positive comments. Lots asking where we hired from. Some wanting contact details. Even now, 4 days later people are contacting us and asking about the The Vintage Fish Trailer. All the food was fab, but special praise must go to the Fish. We heard comments such as "so fresh", " lovely and hot" "such light crispy batter" over and over. We even heard "best we've ever had" a number of times. But the chips, sausages, scampi, chicken nuggets, veggie spring roll (which was huge) were also amazing. Ashley ( and co).You helped make our party a huge success. Thank you so much. If we EVER undertake such a big event again we will be back. Meanwhile we will be recommending you to everyone we meet!!”

“Not one to moan as the country is full of people that moan... Ordered a large fish and medium chips.... As in the previous review, the chips were cold and the fish was flat and not what I would call large.. The shocking thing was... The £19.50.. That’s dearer than steak And I know you’re gonna come back with a answer that will redeem things for yourself, but I think it’s best that you started to review your costs and what you actually provide for that price. I will sadly not be returning to your chip shop as I find that shocking and wish I could show you a photograph of the meal as it again was very very very deflating. Once a successful chip shop, sadly your prices are spiralling and it’s not to do with government prices as I have found chip shops also in the area with the same product at a much cheaper price. Shocking shocking shocking £19.50 for fish and chips from this chip shop.”
