About Sambuca Braise Station

Housed in the building that was formerly the village pub, Sambuca Braise Station is an Italian restaurant on Benton Rd in Newcastle Upon Tyne that runs two menus at once. Pizza, pasta and risotto sit alongside traditional English pub food, and Sundays bring a roast with large Yorkshire puddings, with roast lamb among the options. Pizzas can be built to order, including a DIY version and a veggie pizza made without cheese, while weekday specials and a meal deal pairing starters with pizza broaden the midweek choice. Beers are poured on tap. Waiting staff handle table service, with several working the floor. The restaurant opens daily and reservations are recommended, since Friday nights fill the car park and can mean a wait for a table. A step-free entrance serves visitors with mobility needs, high chairs make space for families with young children, and outdoor seating is set aside for eating in the open air.

Customer Review Summary

Pizza anchors most accounts, from a build your own version assembled without fuss to a meal deal pairing starters with pizza, and several reviewers group it with the pasta and risotto as the reason they would return. Close behind sits the Sunday roast, praised by one family for roast lamb and the largest Yorkshire puddings a reviewer says they have seen, and called the best thing here by another regular. Steaks cooked as requested and an outsized cheesy garlic bread also draw mentions. Service splits opinion: many describe staff who accommodated a three year old and a Valentine's booking, while one diner found the floor staff bored despite plenty of them working, and another noticed a different vibe from a different shift. The sharpest complaint comes from a reviewer who says a booking promise of vegan options went unrecognised on arrival, leaving a cheeseless veggie pizza that several in the group could not finish. A warmer account closes with a server playing guitar for a young boy's birthday, then taking a song request from his music books.

“Probably the worst meal I've ever eaten. Claimed they could make vegan options when booking but when I was there the waitress acted like she had never heard the word vegan before 😂😅. No worries, I just ordered a veggie pizza with no cheese and it had to be the worst pizza I've ever eaten. Multiple people in my group were unable to finish their meals (even non vegan). Probably the worst food quality I've ever seen, atmosphere was awful. Only upside was it was cheap, but i would say still not cheap enough for the horrendous quality.”

“Tasty food. Good menu. Made up a DIY pizza without any problems so that made 1 member of our family very happy. We were too late but they do weekday specials at a ridiculously cheap price before 5:pm”

“Thank you guys so much for a wonderful Valentine's night, yous smashed it. Lovely place, staff were super accommodating and charming in their own ways. Great work.”

“When I was a teenage, I used to clean the windows of this place when it was the village pub. Now its a restaurant that serves your traditional English pub food as well as an Italian menu, and I welcome the change! I came here with family on a Sunday and had a good roast lamb, while the others had a Sunday roast with the largest Yorkshire puddings I've ever seen. The interior retains much of the old decor, which gives it a warm, welcoming atmosphere.”
