About Sambuca Forest Hall
Sambuca Forest Hall is an Italian restaurant in Newcastle Upon Tyne, on Great Lime Rd, open daily. The menu pairs pizza and pasta with roast dinners and Yorkshire puddings, so an Italian meal and a Sunday-style plate sit side by side. Pizzas and calzone share the list with lasagne and carbonara, and pollo alla crema is also on offer. Starters include a king prawn dish and bruschetta, with garlic bread to go alongside. Potato skins are available too, including with takeaway orders. Inside, a log burner provides heat, backed up by small electric heaters, and some seating is set in a "pod". Desserts include ice cream served in a small pot.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers split sharply on the food. The roast dinners and calzone draw the warmest praise, with one takeaway customer calling the calzone the best they have had and noting there are no frozen Yorkshire puddings. The pollo alla crema is called stunning and a king prawn starter lovely, though a bruschetta came a little dry. Several diners describe the staff as friendly, polite and swift, and one suggests adding a creamy veg soup as a starter. The critical reviews are specific. The lasagne and carbonara were called tasteless, with the lasagne sauce likened to tomato soup, and a marinara had chewy seafood. One takeaway order was not found in the system at first and was replaced with chicken, gravy and a heap of potato skins. Others describe slow service on busy nights, long gaps between courses and too few waiting staff. One diner found the room cold after a gas heater ran out, and another reports a chipped child's plate. A last reviewer complains that ice cream now arrives in a small pot that drips across the table.

“King prawn starter was lovely, my partner had bruschetta which was a little dry. The Pollo alla crema was stunning. We sat in the pod without thinking about how hot it would get.”

“Food has massively improved since my last visit, everything was spot on. Service has always been great. Kids loved it too. Would recommend adding the creamy veg soup as a starter option. Some of the other Sambuca franchises have and its a big hit.”

“A reasonable price food restaurant but gets very busy so service can be very slow. This is not a criticism as a busy place means that it is popular with diners. The food is varied and of a good quality. We visit often and will continue to do so.”

“My order was not even received by the restaurant and when I arrived they said they didn't have it but then did once they looked at the system, because they did not see it they said no dinners left but then the chef came out and said I can make them but no beef so just chicken. They also said they would put come potato skins in of which it was mainly like they grabbed what they had veg wise and just threw it in and packed us off with loads of potato skins so mainly had chicken gravy potato skins and a Yorkshire pudding and was not exactly the best, I could have made a dinner for much cheaper and tasted better then what I got. I am very disappointed to be honest won't be returning, this was a takeaway order. Regards Andrew”

“I felt compelled to share a review, my wife and father in law are housebound so I use this restaurant for takeaway food. Tonight’s order was two pizzas plus potato skins. The service, as always, was fantastic, they’re so friendly but the food is exceptional. To quote my wife, “This may be the best food I’ve had, never mind the best calzone!” I’d say the same for their roast dinners as well, great value, great food and no frozen yorkshires here, only the best! Thank you all, you make such a difference”
