About Rising Sun Countryside Centre Cafe
Sitting inside a country park visitor centre on Whitley Rd, Rising Sun Countryside Centre Cafe is a cafe in Newcastle Upon Tyne with walking, running and cycling trails, picnic areas and an adventure playground right outside, and a parkrun held in the park. The counter runs on walk-ins, with hot and cold drinks, coffee and ice creams alongside sandwiches, paninis, cheese scones and cake, plus fuller plates such as a full English breakfast. Outdoor tables let visitors eat in the open after a walk, and dogs are welcome, which suits anyone bringing one along the trails. A step-free entrance keeps the centre reachable for visitors with mobility needs, and high chairs make room for families with young children. Toilets are available at the centre, and free parking sits in a nearby car park. The cafe opens daily during the day and closes in the afternoon. A Christmas lunch is served in season.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers mostly come for the country park itself, praising the walking trails, the views and the dog walks, with the cafe serving as the stop for coffee, cake or a sandwich afterward. One parkrun participant describes a nice coffee and a chat after the run, and another mentions a handy loo break and a drink. Close behind is the food: one reviewer recommends the large, tasty cheese scones and calls the full English breakfast of reasonable standard and price, and another describes a Christmas lunch the family returns for every year as great value with friendly staff. The complaints are specific. One reviewer describes paninis with sloppy tuna and a hot dog bun that seemed cooked from frozen, empty sauce bottles, and staff huffing and dropping food. Another notes high prices on some items, slow service, congestion because the cafe was reachable only through a side door, and a 3.30 closing time in the holiday season. Plenty of free parking near the centre comes up as a plus.

“The park is great. The food, paninis with slop tuna, a sprinkle of melted cheese and the worst, poor quality, cooked from frozen? White hot dog bun I have ever experienced. Sauces empty, staff huffing puffing and growling at people, dropping food as they went. I could not recommend.. end this place for lunch to anyone. Would be cheaper and better having a pub lunch with bottomless coffees. Very disappointed.”

“What a lovely place for coffee and a sandwich abd a good chat, staff are very helpful and friendly.”

“Lovely place for a walk. Good variety of trails. I can get round one of the trails in about an hour and there are shorter ones too.”

“Cafe well placed in the country park near to adventure playground and car park. Selling hot and cold drinks, ice creams and some snack meals. Some prices are high although full meals seem reasonable. On the day we visited the cafe was only accessible through a side door causing congestion, service can be slow and the cafe closed at 3.30 (in the holiday season, really?)”

“Absolutely love this hidden gem in the middle of a busy city, with great walks with amazing views. Enjoy a cup of coffee and cake or even a spot of lunch with an amazing view.”
