  “Ordered Pork noodles and salt pepper chicken wings.. its hard to explain just how disgusting it was. Noodles tasted of nothing but salt, pork was like shoe leather, and the chicken wings were old, pre cooked, soggy, and the bones were black. I realise you shouldn't expect good food in 90% of Chinese takeaways it's hangover food or drunk food. But even though I went in with very low expectations it was so bad it was inedible. Threw it in bin and glad I did. I would seriously avoid this place if you want a decent meal. The amazing reviews on here are either fake or the people have no idea what good or even avareage food is... it's a shame as I'm sure the chef is capable of cooking good food.. but they must think the people in newbury are use to eating utter garbage and they are probably right as it was quite busy in there. Hopefully I went on a bad day and its better than I think, but I seriously doubt it .. Avoid Avoid !!”

  “We stopped off here on the strength of the reviews from what we can only guess as locals. People say they have been going here for years and never been disappointed. As visitors we can honestly say we were not disappointed either. There is 30 minute free parking directly opposite the takeaway (but do get a ticket from the machine first) there was nobody in the Lotus Garden when I placed our order, but a lot of telephone orders were arriving. Our order arrived in the fastest time I have ever encountered in any Chinese takeaway. Now you would think maybe the food would be tepid, especially after a drive back to our hotel (approx 8 minutes), but we wrapped it in a blanket and it was all red hot when we arrived at our room. The food itself as well as being hot, was also delicious. Well done Lotus Garden, we can say your regular customers were spot on.”

  “I recently tried Lotus Green and I’m so impressed with the food, it’s so tasty vs some others around Newbury. The beef in black bean sauce is unreal, always tastes fresh. Chicken Choi Mein is always incredible with tender chicken not chewy. Highly recommend !”

  “I ordered two Beef chow mein for delivery. It took 1 hour to arrive although being in a 5 minute driving distance. On arrival the food was a huge lump of spaghetti covered in a brown sticky liquid, about two bean sprouts and one small onion ring. There were 6 small tough and gristly pieces of meat, beef I hope. Compared to many orders over the years, this was a drop in quality too big to ignore, dropping from 5 stars to 1. Maybe a coincidence but after consumption multiple bathroom visits were required. Will never order again.”

  “Have ordered takeaways from here for several years now, but I have only decided to write a review having seen some of the negative comments here. The atmosphere here is good for a takeaway outside London's China Town, and I have always found the service excellent though I tend to collect the food rather than have it delivered. As for the food itself, I am particularly fond of the Hot and Sour Soup, the Fried Rice and the Sweet & Sour Pork. I am also obsessed with their King Prawn Omelettes which I much prefer in comparison to the others I have tried from other establishments in the area. All in all, I continue to look forward to enjoying the food and service from Lotus Garden.”

  “I’ve used the Lotus Garden many times without any issues. Visited this evening 26/10 Sweet & Sour Chicken Balls were delicious, batter not overcooked and Egg Fried Rice + Pancake Rolls. The food was very hot with only a 10 minute wait.”
