Customer Review Summary

Charcoal-grilled beef anchors the praise, with reviewers singling out the beef bulgogi, pork belly and marinated beef ribs as tender and flavourful, alongside fresh side dishes in generous portions. Soups come close behind. Diners name the ox tail soup, beef rib soup and galbi tang, and the pajeon and naengmyeon also get a mention. Several describe the food as authentic and just like Korea, though one says it falls short of Seoul while still beating other local options. The kitchen draws the criticism. One reviewer found the ban ban chicken's flour-heavy batter overpowering and the grilled pork bland, with the beef and chicken faring better. Another reports a delivered marinated crab order with hard shells, barely any meat, and a rotten smell and grey colour, though they hoped it was just a bad batch. Staff are repeatedly called friendly, kind and welcoming, and two reviewers recall being shown how to cook the meat at the table on a first visit to Korean BBQ.

“This was our first time having Korean bbq. Staff were very kind and showed us how to do. Some cuts were better than the others and overall the food was good.”

“I have eaten at this restaurant a few times over a couple of months but I had never tried their marinated crab until today. As I was staying away, I decided to order it to my house. I have had marinated crab before several times and normally in different restaurants the crabs come small with a soft shell. However, the crabs I got were hard with barely any meat inside of them, no matter how hard I tried to break it. The meat that did come out was rotten and stringy. The crab meat smelt horrid with a grey sort of colour to it. I liked this restaurant so for my own piece of mind, I want to believe it was just unfortunately a bad batch not checked over 💔. .”

“Dining at Jin Go Gae offers a mixed bag of impressions, a place where the warmth of the staff outshines the culinary execution. The food, while generally enjoyable, struggles with consistency. The ban ban chicken disappoints because the flour-heavy batter leaves a lingering taste that overshadows the intended crispness. The grilled meats show potential but would benefit from deeper marination. The pork tastes bland, the beef is more successful and the chicken is the strongest dish overall. The atmosphere is serviceable but unremarkable. The restaurant accommodates large groups comfortably, making it suitable for dinner gatherings. The lighting is dim and may not appeal to everyone. The toilets are impressively clean and well maintained, which reflects positively on the establishment’s attention to hygiene.Where Jin Go Gae truly excels is in its service. The staff are personable, proactive and genuinely delightful. Their professionalism and warmth elevate the entire experience and leave a lasting impression. In summary, Jin Go Gae is a restaurant I would revisit because of the staff rather than the food. Their hospitality is exceptional, even if the kitchen needs a touch more finesse.”

“Absolutely fantastic Korean BBQ! The quality of the meat was exceptional, especially the beef bulgogi and pork belly, and cooking everything over the charcoal grill made it even better. The staff were friendly, welcoming and happy to explain how everything worked. Great selection of authentic side dishes, generous portions and a brilliant atmosphere. Easily one of the best Korean BBQ restaurants I’ve been to. Highly recommended if you’re in New Malden – I’ll definitely be back!”

“When I checked the restaurant online, I saw it only had a 4.1 rating, and many of the reviews complained about the food and service. But my friend told me to trust him because the flavours were just like in Korea. To be honest, after trying it, I think he was right. The food tasted very authentic, just like in Korea, and everything was good by UK standards. The service was also very nice.”
