Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often return to the sea bass, described as a spaghetti special with red onion, sweet tomatoes and a smoky sauce, and one calls it the best bowl of food they had this year. Close behind are the stuffed or battered mushrooms and the pasta sauces, with the penne salsiccia, spicy tomato pasta, steak and chicken also praised. Starters such as garlic chilli prawns and meatballs, plus desserts like the apple and cinnamon cheesecake and vanilla fudge sundae, come up too. Diners describe big portions, good value, a relaxing and homely atmosphere, and friendly servers who leave couples alone to talk. Several mention a welcoming owner and quick service. One reviewer notes seeing people turned away at the door and suggests booking in advance. The one real complaint comes from a diner who was told garlic bread would come with the meal and received two small pieces of bread with garlic butter, and who also burned their mouth on an espresso served without warning. Several are repeat visitors, one returning after ten years and booking again for the weekend.

“Superb little restaurant. I have been here a few times over the years and it never disappoints. From the friendly welcome from the owner, to the cosy interior and first class food. It has a great varied menu to cater for most people and regularly changing specials. For starters - stuffed mushrooms and chicken goujons. Main’s - chicken/haggis, sea bass special and spicy tomato pasta. Dessert - apple/cinnamon cheesecake. Genuinely could not fault one bit of it and the cost is very reasonable for a treat eating out. Would recommend to anyone.”

“I don’t normally leave Google ratings but…. Tonight was my wife and I’s Anniversary so we wanted a meal out that wasn’t Hotel food. Our Dentist in Livingston told us about this restaurant so we decided to get it a go. Things I liked, for about 23 pounds apiece, my wife and I got a starter and a main, good value. The starter arrived pretty quickly, that was good since I was hungry. My wife got four meatballs (she said that they were very good, which is high praise since she wanted to be a Home Economics teacher). I had four medium sized battered mushrooms with a wonderful dipping sauce, with a small side salad with balsamic vinegar. Totally acceptable. Not long our main course came. I had Spaghetti with flaked sea bass . Confession, I’ve had Sea Bass before that was cooked over a bbq grill, this Sea Bass I believe was boiled ? It was excellent, it came in a large bowl, the spaghetti was mixed with red onion, sweet tomatoes, and some kind of Smokey fishy sauce. It was the best bowl of food I have had this year, it was wonderful. Our Anniversary meal was excellent, the waiters don’t bug you, the leave you alone in your conversation. My wife and I were very pleased, this restaurant needs to open up in Edinburgh ! Blessed and we know it ! D. Dillman”
