Customer Review Summary
Sunday roast is what most reviewers return for, with the roast beef, the vegetarian squash wellington, cauliflower cheese and roast potatoes singled out, and one calling it the best roast in Margate. Close behind are the fish dishes, where the monkfish and the pollock with lobster bisque get repeat praise, along with the bavette steak, chicken terrine starter and a pork main followed by chocolate mousse. Several highlight the wine list, which includes local English wines, and the weekday fixed price menu is described as a bargain for a group of four. Servers are repeatedly called attentive and friendly, and one let a table sample red wines and held it while the party photographed the sunset. The one sharply negative visit came from a roast dinner with dry chicken, hard roast potatoes and undercooked carrots and cauliflower, plus a cramped corner table so rickety the drinks nearly toppled, though the cabbage and Yorkshire puddings were liked. That reviewer took the leftover chicken home for the dog.

“PomUS at the Fort Road hotel was exceptionally good. We’ve been a few times and they have a great wine list - always some local English wines, which have been great - and their fish has consistently been wonderful. The monkfish is a must, and our recent visit the pollock with lobster bisque was 10/10!”

“Really excellent Roast, roast beef was amazing”

“This was really disappointing. We came here for a roast dinner. I was crammed in a corner where I could barely fit, with a table that was so rickety we nearly lost our drinks a few times. The food was just bad: dry chicken, potatoes you could get a shrapnel injury from, undercooked carrots and cauliflower. If you’re going to roast veg then they should at least be cooked through, there was none of the delicious browning you’d hope for on the carrots or the cauliflower . The cabbage and Yorkshire puddings were nice. But overall quite expensive and extremely disappointing. I could definitely cook better myself, as could many other places in Margate. I took the rest of the chicken home for my dog, who will probably enjoy it as she won’t mind that it’s dry.”

“A group of four of us had an absolutely delightful Thursday night meal here!! We had the weekday fixed price menu and honestly it was an absolute bargain for really high quality food (and fab wines to accompany) The service was also amazing. I highly recommend.”
