About The Greendale Oak
The Greendale Oak is a gastropub on Budby Rd in Mansfield, a village pub on the Welbeck estate just off the A60 at Cuckney Crossroads, near the Major Oak in Nottinghamshire. The building is divided into a restaurant, a snug, a bar and a dedicated dog-friendly area, so guests who bring their dogs have a space of their own alongside the other rooms. The kitchen cooks fish and chips and a melted cheese burger, and sticky toffee pudding closes the menu. Vegetarian and vegan options are listed, and gluten-free choices extend to a burger bun, so those avoiding gluten can still order a burger. The bar pours cask ale, craft beers, ciders and spirits. Food is served through the afternoon.

Customer Review Summary
Sunday lunch is the most frequent draw, with reviewers praising the beef and pork dinners, a menu that goes beyond traditional roasts, and great value, though cauliflower cheese and crackling cost extra. One reviewer suggests booking in advance because it gets busy. Close behind are the chicken burger, fish and chips and sticky toffee pudding, along with a gluten-free menu that two reviewers praise, including a gluten-free chicken burger with onion ring, though one found the gluten-free bun microwaved too much. Service is described as friendly, but slowness is the recurring complaint. A table of six waited an hour and a half for mains and another half hour for puddings, and a group of four waited almost an hour. Some dishes fell short too: a melted cheese burger with a bland bun and tiny coleslaw, and a beef bourguignon that was slow cooked beef under a pre-made gravy and lacked seasoning. One group's undercooked salmon tasting plate arrived without its rice, and the manager held to charging for it.

“Really disappointing experience at Greendale Oak. We visited as a group of four for the first time. Unfortunately, the food took almost an hour to arrive. Our server, Ethan, was polite and friendly, but explained that he was new to this location and hadn’t been given enough knowledge of the menu to answer most of our questions. We asked about the salmon alongside multiple other menu queries and the responses were constantly that he did not know. One of our party ordered the salmon tasting plate. It appeared undercooked and arrived without the rice stated on the menu. When she asked to return it and order something else, Ethan informed us that we would still have to pay for the salmon. We then asked to speak to the manager, Jasmine. Rather than trying to understand the overall situation or offer any sort of resolution, Jasmine told us that it was their policy and that they “can’t be taking money off for everyone who doesn’t like a dish.” We found the response particularly dismissive given everything that had happened. She did not even apologise once. Separately, I ordered the beef burger. After the meal I became unwell with symptoms consistent with food poisoning. I obviously cannot prove definitively that the burger was the cause, but given the timing, it added considerably to an already poor experience. The issue was never simply about getting money taken off the bill. It was the combination of the nearly hour long wait, a dish arriving without an item stated on the menu, inadequate menu training and, most importantly, the way our concerns were handled by management. Ethan was actually the one person we felt was trying his best despite clearly not having been given enough information or training. It’s a shame because the venue itself has potential, but based on this first experience, none of the four of us would be rushing back.”

“They were busy for just the two guys working but well done them. We only stopped for a quick lunch. I had a 'small plates goats cheese and beetroot salad and fries. Was delicious”

“Very nice pub, full of atmosphere. Staff very friendly and attentive. Can't fault our server, Lola. Food portions were great. I had soup for starters and was presented with a massive bowl. For main I had beef bourguignon. Sadly it was nothing like a beef bourguignon. The beef had been slow cooked and was tender, but was not cooked in wine, with onions and herbs and lardons creating a delicious source. It was simply slow cooked beef with a pre done gravy poured on top of the meet and lacked seasoning!!”

“Food was nice, especially the fish & chips, chicken burger and sticky toffee pudding. However service was exceptionally slow. We were a table of 6, which doesn't seem massive to me, and it took an hour and a half to get our mains, then half an hour to get our puddings (after we eventually managed to get someone to take our order). We were there for 3 hours in total, and not for any reason other than it taking ages to be served.”

“Food was lovely Gluten free and the service was friendly whilst under alot of pressure because it became so busy in such a short time, and it was Tuesday lunchtime 17th March. If I was to criticize the gf bun for the burger was a little microwaved too much maybe from frozen, would be better to cut from frozen and toast. But it doesn't stop me giving 5 stars for the overall experience thank you”
