About Brotherhood of Pursuits & Pastimes

Brotherhood of Pursuits & Pastimes is a sports bar in central Manchester, on Mount St by St Peter's Square. Screens throughout the bar show live football, F1, UFC and NFL. A large downstairs area has seating and booths, some with their own TV, so a group can follow up to 3 different sporting events at once. Tables can be booked for groups who want to watch a match together. The bar itself is big, with a draught selection alongside cocktails. The food menu is small and built around burgers and a meat sharer plate of fries and chicken. The space also has bar games.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers mainly come to watch sport on the many screens, with football, F1 and UFC all mentioned and a huge downstairs area where some groups get their own booth with a TV. Burgers are called very good, though one finds the portions small, and others praise a meat sharer plate of fries and chicken, a good cocktail choice and the wing-eating GutBuster challenge. Staff are often described as friendly and welcoming, with one group chatting with nearly every team member, though another found them a little unmotivated. The recurring complaint is bookings. One longtime regular says reservations were not respected and phone and in-person messages conflicted, another was told the bar would close after the first of two NFL games they had planned around, and a third booked but was seated in a cellar and found no cider except flavoured. Still, one group of 15 reserved for a Scotland World Cup game without a deposit, got a full room to themselves, and found Scotland flags on the tables.

“Very welcoming pub, with genuinely lovely staff - out on a work evening with a handful of us staying over in Manchester and it's quite rare to go somewhere where the group has a memorable conversation with almost every staff member. Good beer, good people, would gladly return.”

“This place was amazing! Reserved a table for 15 people for the Scotland World Cup game, didn’t require a deposit and we got a full room to ourselves! Even got little goodies such as Scotland flags for our tables! Can’t recommend this place enough!”
  • Carl Morris
“Pub needs a good clean, we booked and was placed in a cellar. Weekend and no cider other than flavoured. Toilets and stairs leading down smelly and dirty. Glass of wine very expensive at £12.+”
  • Beverley Price
“Great atmosphere with plenty of screens to watch the sports (we were there for F1). Small food menu but we enjoyed a meat sharer plate of fries chicken etc. Good cocktail choice. Friendly staff.”
  • Andy Taylor
“I’ve been going to Brotherhood for years and years but the service has gone really downhill. Failure to respect bookings, mixed messages over the phone and in person, and an attitude best summed up by “who cares, there’s always someone else”. I value service, respect and honesty. And that’s sorely missing from this venue nowadays so me and my friends, loyal customers, won’t be going again”
