About KING KARAHI & TAWA

King King Karahi & Tawa is a Pakistani restaurant at 819 Stockport Rd in Manchester, open daily. The menu pairs a "Tawa for 8" sharing platter with desi nashta, the Pakistani-style breakfast, so the table can be shared across a group or set for a morning meal. Karahi dishes include lamb karahi and a 1kg chicken boneless karahi, and the nehari comes with kulcha naan. Roghni naan and roti are the breads that go with the mains, and lassi is served by the glass or by the jug. The room is decorated in a traditional Pakistani style, with background music. The kitchen stays open late for late-night meals, and sehri is served during Ramadan.

Customer Review Summary

Karahi is what diners praise most, from a lamb karahi that reminded one reviewer of home cooking to a boneless chicken karahi eaten with roti, with another calling the spice, aroma and tenderness well balanced. Close behind are the Kings Tawa and the Tawa for 8, which a family described as packed with flavor, alongside Daal, Chicken Achari and Chicken Chilli. Nehari with kulcha naans, maghaz with soft rotis, and desi chai also earn praise, and several mention welcoming staff, one explaining the dishes to a first-time visitor. One reviewer found the decor a tad outdated but traditional. The complaints are specific. One takeaway customer reports being overcharged by about half the bill without a receipt, with a refund offered after a phone call, and describes tasteless seekh kebabs and roghni naans with cut corners and burnt backs. A sehri diner reports repeatedly reminding a server about a lassi order while being ignored, and found the food poor.

“The restaurant has very good service and dishes. I'm an international student, and I went to this restaurant alone. I had no idea what kinds of dishes they served or how to eat them, but the staff kindly explained everything to me. I will not forget this service and taste. I will go back again😄”

“King Karahi & Tawa delivers exceptional quality every time. The flavours are rich and authentic, with each dish cooked to perfection—especially the karahi, which has the ideal balance of spice, aroma, and tenderness. Service is smooth, portions are generous, and the food arrives hot and fresh. A reliable choice for anyone who appreciates well-made Pakistani cuisine.”

“I recently had a terrible experience with King Karahi and Tawa. Yesterday, we ordered four portions of chicken seekh kebab, four roghni naans, and one paratha. When I went to pick up the order, the woman at the counter charged me £44. I paid, but she didn't provide a receipt. On the way home, I realized I'd been overcharged by about £21.When I called to complain, she admitted her mistake and asked me to come back for a refund. While I appreciated her honesty in correcting the error, the food itself was very disappointing. The seekh kebabs were completely tasteless, and the roghni naans were clearly not fresh. The corners of the naan had been cut off, likely to hide that they were burnt. Some of the naans were also burnt on the back.Overall, the quality of the food was unacceptable. Instead of providing fresh naans, they tried to pass off burnt ones by cutting off the damaged parts. The seekh kebabs lacked any flavor. I won't be ordering from King Karahi and Tawa again.”
