About Nell's Pizza - NQ

Nell's Pizza - NQ is a pizza restaurant and bar on Edge St in Manchester, and it describes itself as New York City pizza. The pizzas come in a giant 22-inch size, and guests order them from the table by scanning a QR code, which keeps the ordering in the diner's hands. The names are playful, with Barbie and Ken and Do you roni honey on the pizza list. Dips and truffle mayo are on the menu for anyone who wants extras with the crusts. The bar side runs to frozen sangria, and there are margarita mocktails for those skipping alcohol. Pizzas this size can outlast a table, and leftovers can be boxed up to take home.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers center on the New York style pizza, describing a thin base with a thick, crunchy crust, generous toppings and very large sizes. The Hawaiian and OG cheese draw praise, as do the "Do you roni honey" and "Barbie and Ken", and the truffle mayo and dips get enthusiastic mentions. Several point to value, especially the weekday lunchtime deal and a promotion that cut pizza prices. Among drinks, the frozen sangria, caipirinha and mango basil margarita mocktail please, while the house lager is called watery and one reviewer found the chilli honey and pineapple margarita mocktail not sweet enough. The main complaint is noise: hard surfaces and loud music make conversation difficult indoors. One diner says a QR order that was paid for never reached the system, which meant a long wait and a server who pointed them across the room for napkins. Another found the upfront tip prompt disconcerting. Air conditioning earns credit on hot days, and staff are called friendly, boxing up leftover pizza with a smile.

“Due to the today, we came when the kitchen was hot due to heat so they were only serving slices of pizzas. We told the lady that was fine with us. When our order came we noticed that the slices were 'Large' but tasty. The pineapple/apple juice was refreshing with this heat. Inside both my mum and I enjoyed our meal with the air-conditioning blowing so it was nice and cool, it helped my mum out lots, as our journey to Manchester was manic due to trains being cancelled or delayed.”

“The pizza itself is SO GOOD, I would 100% recommend them if you find something on the menu that even remotely sounds tasty. It will be that and more! The low star rating is due to a few things: - It was unbearably loud. Hard surfaces everywhere, loud music blaring from all the speakers, impossible to hear yourself let alone the person you’re with. Mind you, the only seat I could take was inside where it was the loudest. Outside is better, but you have other people shouting there too. - Takes a long time. I ordered from their QR code, got a payment successful message, waited for 30 minutes, nothing. So I checked at the bar and they said they didn’t have my order in their system so they had to help me get it sorted. But getting their attention to do this took another 20 minutes. All in all, took 1h40m to get the pizza. - Rowdy crowd and I got spilled on. Someone knocked into a sever who was carrying a tray of drinks and I got some beer spilled on my shirt. It’s definitely not their fault, but when I asked the server for napkins to help clean up, they kept walking to deliver the drinks and said I could go get napkins across the room. I hope to go back for lunch sometime to have a better experience because the food was so, so worth it. But the evening/dinner experience wasn’t one I’d want to repeat.”

“I have to give this 5 stars. The pizzas were delicious with crispy base. The staff were friendly and boxed up my leftover pizza 🍕 with a smile. They were chatty and friendly. The air con is spot on in the hot weather and music is good, although a little loud. I would recommend the lunch time special which is available during the week. ***** to the original sausage material amazing! Cheese and onion is very oniony Ham and pinapple is rather sweet.”

“Casual dining particularly suitable for groups. Working my way through the Manchester Pizza scene and next up, a long overdue trip to Nell's. Went in Sunday teatime, nice buzz, only couple tables free indoors, the drinks were flowing and groups settled down to share those giant pizzas and drinks. Ordering at table is via app (I prefer to pay cash for meals so I can't tip to the server's hand) but fairly fiss free and straightforward. HOWEVER you are encouraged to tip up front which is a title disconcerting, I mean if I tip handsomely do I get my food promptly and with a smile, if I decline to tip, am I going to wait til someone slaps it down when they have a moment. Anyway the staff are lovely and I ordered a beer and a marg. The house lager was a little watery and it was like drinking bud light - not something I tend to recommend, on a hot day it'd be refreshing enough. The pizza arrived pretty sharpish. The sause and cheese used are tasty, the base is thin, the crust thick and pleasingly crunchy. For someone who is traditionally strict about pizzas being neopolitan, I none the less enjoyed it. Best pizza ever - no, but good enough, and I'd certainly recommend bringing a group to unwind and munch over slices of God's own, rather than endless little plates of fiddly wierd stuff.”
