About Miller & Carter Maidstone
Miller & Carter Maidstone is a steak house on Sandling Rd in Maidstone, set in a colonial-style barracks building from 1796 that now runs as a pub with a restaurant. Steak anchors the menu, with a 50-day aged sirloin and a wagyu ribeye among the cuts, and ribs are ordered as a main. Sauces and a range of sides come with the steaks. Cocktails are served alongside the food. Reservations are required. The building also has rooms for overnight stays, and breakfast is a sit-down meal ordered from a menu.

Customer Review Summary
Steak anchors the praise, from a 50-day aged sirloin to a wagyu ribeye called delicious, with several diners noting it arrived cooked exactly as requested and with a good range of sauces. Close behind are massive ribs, scallops and pork belly starters, a Caesar salad, rump and creme brulee, and cocktails. Servers are repeatedly called friendly and accommodating, and one lunch guest got drinks almost instantly. The criticism is more detailed. One overnight guest describes rotten windows and woodwork, no air conditioning in a hot room, a dirty shower, missing toast and tomatoes at breakfast, and dead insects in the orange juice. Another stayer found the juice shop-bought and the breakfast menu light on cereal, fruit and yoghurt. A diner found the standalone chairs uncomfortable, and another was disappointed that a partner's birthday went unacknowledged after being mentioned. Still, the detail that recurs most is a complimentary dessert or cake arriving unrequested once a birthday or anniversary was mentioned.

“Our server Sarah gave us an outstanding experience. This woman really deserves some praise. 10/10 service, the food was incredible. We had our little sister with us who was more than entertained the whole time. Thank you Sarah for my Husbands perfect birthday meal. X”

“We stayed the night, so had dinner plus breakfast. Pleasantly impressed with their 50-day aged sirloin steak, range of sauces and sides to suit all palates. Amazing attention to detail by the very friendly staff, we were treated like VIPs. Considerate and polite. Food was immensely enjoyable. Very accommodating hotel manager who supported all my requests. Breakfast was a sit down menu-based option. Pulled beef dish and poached egg/smoked salmon options were exceptionally prepared. Only small criticism is the shop-bought juices served in jugs. No cereal, fruit, yoghurt options apparent on the menu. Freshly squeezed juice would have been a superb touch. But overall we had a wonderful stay and would recommend to anyone wanting a well prepared steak.”

“Want to stress, this review is in no way a reflection of the evening restaurant staff. The waitress who looked after us was absolutely superb and the food was good, however: Overnight stay on way back from France. I think its fair to say, based on the prices on the menu, Miller and Carter see themselves as a semi premium brand, and have certainly tried to lift and seperate themselves away from the typical "pub grub" venue. Our food was good, the service exceptional. The room was OK, very large, but couldn't sleep due to heat- current heatwave not their fault!- No air con, but 2 fans that barely worked. My issue isn't with any of this. The problem is, the property basically looks to be in a state of dis-repair. I appreciate refurbishment would be upwards of 500k, but had the property had annual maintenance, it would not look as poor. Rotten windows and wood everywhere. Images show extent of degradation from inside room and out. This can't be a listed building, so no excuse really. Inside, literally layer upon layer of gloss to try and hold rotten windows and cills together. For a brand that would want to give a better perception and experience than it's "poorer" sister brand, an absolute mess and certainly spoils the experience of spending £80+ on a steak. I use Miller and Carter all over the country for entertaining clients. I doubt that will continue, if this is what the company is going to allow their venues to become. Real shame. Bill for 4 dining was £310, plus £223 for two rooms- no air con and rotten woodwork everywhere in both rooms/ dirty shower. Went down for breakfast and had to ask cleaner if she could let us sit down- no one about. Toasted sour dough missing, no tomato's when food arrived. Dead insects in fresh orange. I won't go on..... Suggest you avoid. Very disappointed repeat brand customer. Get it sorted M&C, I will be writing to head office for a refund, and, until that is sorted, will be taking clients elsewhere, where ever I am in the UK.”
