Customer Review Summary
Afternoon tea leads the praise, with reviewers repeatedly singling out the warm scones, fresh sandwiches, and the well-curated selection of cakes that delighted both adults and children. The Romney room’s elegant decor and spacious seating earn frequent mention, as does the attentive service. Diners also highlight the lamb, roasted to a crisp skin with medium-rare meat, for its complex flavour and bite. A recurring caveat is limited vegetarian options, with one reviewer noting overcooked pasta with little sauce and undercooked mains. Several also point out the need for reservations and the tricky access, with one suggesting clearer directions to the car park and entrance. One diner describes the red wine as not up to standard.

“Beautiful afternoon tea today, celebrating Mother’s Day. The sandwiches were fresh, the scones were warm and the selection of cakes were delicious. Our children also had an afternoon tea which they very much enjoyed. Their afternoon tea was very well throughout. From Jelly, to fruit skewers and much more it captured its targeted audience well. The Romney room is wonderful, excellent deco and the seating arrangement was spacious which made for a very elegant dinning room. The staff were very friendly and attentive. I had not heard of this restaurant before but so glad I found it as it is a beautiful place. It is tucked away on the grounds of Mote Park and I would say it is a little hard to find, perhaps a little FAQ section on the website advising how to get to the car park and then in to the building as we did have to call to be guided in! Other than that, I can’t fault it! Wonderful afternoon and we’re excited to visit again.”

“a very enjoyable family birthday lunch on a table reserved in advance. Everyone enjoyed their food, but not every food option on the menu was available, but we did arrive late so partly our fault. The red wine served was felt to be not in …”

How this listing is sourced
- Where the data comes from
- Name, address, hours, contact details, amenities, ratings and review counts come from the business's publicly available profile data — not from the owner and not from paid submissions.
- How it stays current
- Every listing is re-checked on a recurring crawl, and anything reported as wrong is corrected at the source rather than patched on the page.
- How it is ranked
- Placement is never sold. Every business on the page is ordered and compared using the same public signals, so an owner cannot pay to move up.
