Quick info
About Bearsted Fish Bar
Bearsted Fish Bar is a fish and chips takeaway at 29 Egremont Rd in Maidstone. The fish comes with a gluten-free batter option, so guests who avoid gluten can still order the shop's main dish. Battered chips sit on the menu alongside the standard fish and chips. The kitchen also cooks doner lamb kebab and 14" pizzas, which widens the choice for a table or household that wants something other than fish. Orders can be placed by phone or online, and there is a seat in the shop for anyone waiting on their food. The shop is open Monday to Saturday and closed on Sundays.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers return most for the fish, described as perfectly cooked, and several call it the best chip shop in the area, with one weekly regular driving a round trip past a closer chippie. Close behind are the large chips, the added battered chips, and the gluten-free batter option that lets a whole family share fish and chips. Others mention shish kebab, doner lamb kebab and 14" pizzas, and reviewers describe the owners and staff as friendly and the food as piping hot, including an online order that was ready on arrival. The complaints are specific. One diner found a medium cod that was nearly all batter with little fish, and said they would take their business elsewhere. Another finds the chips too dry and not crispy enough, and dislikes phone orders being wrapped and held on a warm shelf instead of served fresh. A few note it gets busy at weekends. One reviewer even praises the shop for being organized, with seating for those waiting on their order.

“This is by far the best chip shop in the area. The portion sizes are perfect with large chips really being large, it does my whole family perfectly! The chips are perfectly cooked too. Although there is a chip shop closer, this is our go to plaice!”

“This evening I came away with a medium sized cod that was all batter with very little fish that I was able to extract from this mass of batter. I have never been disappointed with any previous fish meal from this shop except on this occasion when I was unable to find sufficient fish to appreciate. Fortunately I ordered a large portion of chips because without these I certainly would have remained hungry. If this is what customers can expect then I intend to take my business elsewhere.”
