Quick info
About The Ringlestone inn
The Ringlestone inn is an early 16th-century country pub and restaurant in Maidstone, set in the North Downs of Kent. The kitchen changes its menus with the seasons and uses artisan methods of curing, smoking and preserving. Diners can choose between an a la carte menu and 5 or 7 course tasting menus, and a mackerel starter is among the dishes. Homemade bread comes to the table with flavoured butters to share. The old building has a restaurant area, with more tables near the wood burning stove on the other side of the bar. Reservations are required. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often return to the seven course tasting menu and the a la carte dishes around it, with the mackerel starter named repeatedly as delicious, alongside lamb with cabbage and parmentier potatoes, pork loin, and a lemon olive oil cake. Close behind is the welcome: several describe friendly, attentive staff, and one notes the homemade bread with flavoured butters. A fireplace corner and a wood burning stove add to the old pub setting, and one mentions a warm reception for their dog. Others point to a roast beef Sunday lunch and good beers. The recurring complaint is portion size against price. One diner paid £26.50 for a pork chop with a small bed of cabbage, one carrot and one croquette potato, and left hungry even after a small dessert. Another found portions small but welcomed not feeling stuffed, and a third found the pricing fair. Reviewers suggest booking ahead, noting a fully booked Sunday. One evening a power cut hit, and staff kept serving by candlelight and emergency lighting.

“At the Ringlestone again last night with some friends, the food and atmosphere wonderful as always and suddenly we had a power cut. There was some emergency lighting including in the kitchen of course and candles, the power stayed off for the rest of the evening but the fantastic staff just carried on supplying great food in their usual happy friendly way ! True professionals”

“We had a lovely warm welcome from Dalton upon arrival. Our table was ready and we had the option for either the restaurant or tables near the fire, on the otherside of the bar. We opted for the latter - both areas were excellent/cosy, so I'd happily recommend either. Dalton was friendly, chatty and we immediately felt at ease. All the staff were lovely and friendly throughout. We both ordered the seven course tasting menu at £75 per person. I hope the photos do this justice! Every course was made with care and skill. It was a shame we didn't get to meet Paolo and personally thank him at the end of the meal but passed our regards on to Dalton. It is rare to say I enjoyed every single thing, but on this occasion, every course was exquisite in presentation and taste. This was one of the best meals I've had anywhere in the world. Everything was cooked to perfection and had the taste to match. I highly recommend The Ringlestone Inn and Dalton and Paolo have done an incredible job with the place and food. I will definitely to be back! Incredible stuff all round.”

“Came here for an anniversary meal on 27th June 2026. Beautiful quiet country pub with a menu that only the fussiest of eaters would have problems with. There's a la carte, plus 5 and 7 course tasting menus. I had a mackerel starter (went brilliantly with the tomatoes and rhubarb), Lamb main course with cabbage/parmentier potatoes (delicious) and a lemon olive oil cake with apricots, apricot sorbetand lemon curd (also superb). My wife had tomato and red pepper soup (fantastic), pork loin with ratatouille (which she really enjoyed) and a chocolate dome of dark, rich loveliness with strawberries/ice cream. Portions weren't very big, but it made a nice change to have 3 courses and not have to waddle out feeling bloated/stuffed! It is more expensive than your average pub (though the drinks were VERY reasonably priced) but the food is way better so that's fair enough (not quite up to the standard of say Read's in Faversham or Sportsman in Seasalter but not far off). Service was informal and friendly - just right. Can highly recommend - this was our first visit and hopefully won't be our last. Can't give half stars otherwise it would be 4.5 for everything.”

“We used to visit The Ringlestone on a regular basis, so when we were in the area we decided to pop in for a drink. It still has the Olde Worlde charm, and good beers. We didn't eat this time, but the menu looks good.”
