About Baltistan

On Hitchin Rd in Luton, Baltistan is a licensed Indian restaurant with beamed ceilings and outdoor tables for those who want to eat outside. The kitchen runs a full menu of around 20 dishes, including Thali and Aloo Gobi, alongside table service throughout. On Sundays the restaurant switches to an all-day buffet, with the menu rotating on a four-weekly cycle so the spread changes across visits, and the main menu remains available as an alternative for anyone who prefers to order from it. A step-free entrance suits visitors with mobility needs, and high chairs are available for families with young children. Reservations are recommended given the table service format. The restaurant also offers takeaway and delivery for those eating off site. It opens Tuesday to Sunday and is closed on Mondays. The restaurant sits on a side street on the outskirts of Luton.

Customer Review Summary

Diners repeatedly single out the curries and the House Special set meal, with dishes like the Karahi Lamb, Chicken Tikka Massala, Aloo Gobi and stuffed pepper starter drawing praise for being tender and full of flavour. The Sunday buffet, rotating on a four week menu, and a shared spice tray with papadam before thali also come up as favourites, and one reviewer with a nut allergy and another with coeliac disease describe staff as confident and clear about ingredients. Portions are repeatedly described as generous, and service is called attentive across several visits, including group birthday and Christmas meals. A recurring smaller note is that garnishes can be dry and sitting out a while, though the main dishes are still called flavourful. One reviewer ordering a balti specifically was disappointed given the restaurant's name. Several mention returning for special occasions, with one describing having gone back year after year for Christmas lunch.

“Another wonderful meal. Can't fault anything about this restaurant. And to top it off, they had air conditioning which was essential today! Highly recommend the stuffed pepper starter and the prawn saag.”

“I went to Baltistan restaurant for the first time for my Nani’s 75th birthday meal and let me tell you my expectations were blown wayyyy out of the water! 🤯🤩 A small pub/restaurant located on a side street on the outskirts of Luton, Baltistan restaurant is the definition of the phrase ‘don’t judge a book by its cover’. We went on Sunday which is the day they have their buffet on all day. I thought it was really cool as their buffet menu’s are on a four weekly rotation- meaning even if you went every Sunday in one month you would get to try a different menu each time. Everything on each buffet menu looked amazing. From a range of starters and main courses, with the option of meat and vegetarian dishes there really was something for everyone. I am always super wary when going to Asian restaurants due to my nut allergy as I know it’s a very common ingredient in lots of Asian cuisines. So I was very prepared to not be able to eat much and stick to something safe. Oh was I wrong this time. The staff were so confident in their abilities to tell me what I could and could not have. Letting me know that there was only a few dishes which contained nuts and that I would be safe ordering anything else. My sister who has coeliac disease was also able to eat here with ease due to the staff being so aware of what the menu consisted of. It was a positive change to soften our anxieties when it comes to eating out. We of course did not choose the buffet due to risk of cross contamination and so ordered off of the main menu. Everything we ordered was incredible 😍 The presentation was lovely. Everything was piping hot and fresh. And the flavours 😮‍💨😮‍💨 I think it might be the best South Indian restaurant I’ve been too in a long while. I genuinely wish more people knew about this place because it’s been around for so long and I really think it deserves more attention!! Honestly can’t wait to have an excuse to go back 🤩”
