Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the scones and cakes, from a cheese scone with cream cheese and chilli jam to a fruit scone with jam and clotted cream, plus slices of lemon, raspberry and elderflower cake and lime and coconut cake, described as light textured and a really good slice. Close behind are festive sausage rolls with stuffing, bacon and chutney, and afternoon tea, which diners call delicious with just the right amount of food. Tea and flat white arrive in a mug, which a few mention approvingly. Staff are repeatedly described as friendly and polite, and several call the prices reasonable. The caveats are specific. One reviewer asking about gluten free options was offered only a brownie and one other slice, despite the website promising a good selection, and found a cramped centre table with food debris on the floor. Another was overcharged against the displayed price and was told the till said it was more, with no apology or refund. Furniture and chinaware give a homely feel, and one visit came with calm Sunday morning jazz.

“First time to Mardle Cafe. Flat white in a mug unlike many places where 2 gulps and it has gone. I had a cheese scone with cream cheese and chilli jam. Delicious.”

“Popped in for lunch. Great food and lovely choice of cakes. Friendly service with a warm cosy atmosphere and reasonably priced. Five stars from us!!”

“Visited with friends at 10am following glowing recommendation. Asked what was available Gluten free and was offered a brownie and another slice the name escapes me. Nothing else offered, even though their website said good selection. Our table in the centre of the room was cramped and we had to move around to allow a family to sit at a table behind us. Food debris on the floor and in the table carving. Don't think they had cleaned the table or floor from the day before. However, the food served was of good quality and the staff friendly.”

“My wife and I went to the Mardle after being given some gift vouchers for afternoon tea. What can I say it was such a lovely atmosphere, host was attentive, helpful and smiley the whole time and the food was divine. Would definitely be returning for coffee and cake and maybe another afternoon tea or two.”
