Quick info
About WC Wine & Charcuterie Bloomsbury
WC Wine & Charcuterie Bloomsbury occupies a converted Victorian public toilet, accessed below street level on a traffic island in Bloomsbury. The room keeps its original wood stalls as booths, with some porcelain pieces upholstered for seating, and the original tiles, granite and marble floors remain in place. The space is small. The menu runs to 17 dishes, including sharing boards and mushroom and truffle plates alongside the wine list, and the Peaches and Cream cocktail appears as a regular pour at the bar. It opens daily, evenings only, and reservations are recommended given the limited room. Raclette from the kitchen carries through the space as part of the dining experience.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers repeatedly center on the setting itself, a Victorian public convenience converted into a subterranean wine bar, with original tiles, wood stalls, and even repurposed porcelain seating drawing steady fascination. Close behind, the Peaches and Cream drink gets a specific recommendation from one visitor, while others praise a shared mushrooms and truffle dish and describe sharing boards, though one reviewer felt the boards were expensive for what they got. Several mention the tight, cozy layout and staff described as friendly and knowledgeable, with one couple crediting the owners by role rather than name for wine recommendations and hospitality that made them feel like welcomed guests. A few note the space fills up but still found seating arranged for them despite the crowd. The recurring close is the detail of the original rabbit door knocker and preserved toilet seats now used as fixtures, still pointed out by visitors as proof of the building's past.

“Aman and Elsa’s wine bar is an absolute gem. From the moment you walk in, you can feel the warmth and care they put into every detail. Aman’s knowledge of wine is incredible—he always seems to know exactly what to recommend, whether you’re looking for something bold, crisp, or completely new. Elsa’s hospitality ties everything together; she makes you feel like a welcomed friend rather than just a guest.”

“The best kept secret in Bloomsbury- underground bar converted from Victorian-era water closets on an old traffic island; such a cute, dark, steampunk atmosphere, I love the rabbit door knocker and accompanying cozy candles with standing …”

“A very interesting bar. WC Bloomsbury emerges from a Grade II listed Victorian Water Closet, dating back to the late 19th century. Public toilets first appeared c. 1848 around London. The site is listed on Historic England’s ‘at risk register’ & has been diligently restored, respecting the 120 year old space. Original wood stalls form the booths, with some authentic porcelain pieces upholstered for additional seating. Original tiles form parts of the walls & granite & marble floors have been preserved.”

“Original Victorian public toilet turned bar! Unusual experience but very enjoyable! Lovely sharing boards but felt they were expensive for what you got. Staff very friendly and helpful.”
