About El Vino Fleet Street

El Vino Fleet Street is a wine bar in London at 47 Fleet St, with a bar and a dining room alongside its wine shop. Original cartoons and old photos hang on the walls, and the place has a reputation as a hangout for Fleet Street journalists and city lawyers. The team shares the history of the place with visitors, which gives newcomers some context for the room. Wine is poured by the glass, and a mystery wine match is on the list. Graham's port is served, with samples offered. The kitchen sends out a cheese plate, padrón peppers and a chorizo sandwich, and there is a seat by the fireplace. Bottles are sold to take home.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often single out the welcome from staff, especially a manager who shares the history of the place, offering a tour, a look at the old photos and port samples to visitors who show interest. Several call the service excellent, with one comparing it to a Michelin star restaurant and another saying it feels like family. The wine draws repeated praise, from the smooth port to a mystery wine match that led one diner to buy two bottles, while another bought a bottle of claret after tasting. Food gets mixed reactions. The cheese plate, chicken, padrón peppers, chorizo sandwich, caprese salad and white pizza are called delicious, yet one reviewer was disappointed by low quality ingredients and another found the food only ok. Visitors also describe a quiet early evening and a lawyers pub feel, and one returns yearly for a glass of red beneath the original cartoons on the wall.

“The food was only ok, but the service was off the scale good, the wine selection remarkable, and the ambiance convivial.”

“Went on a Tuesday at 5.30, wasn't busy. Been told is slightly different scenario on thursday/friday. As I booked online, they reserved the best seat in the house by the fireplace. I was meant to go with T. but I showed up alone. Stan and Renato just really made it for me. I was in a very negative space as my last couple weeks were hell and they managed to flip things around, really greatful, I always say it's people that make a space great. Thanks again!!”

“What a fantastic experience with wonderful staff, food and wine. The customer service was exceptional as good as any Michelin star restaurant. The mystery wine match was great fun leaving to the purchase of two beautiful bottles of wine. Finally compliments to the chef! It’s worth the three hour train journey.”

“We had drinks here during the Lady Mayor's parade. The atmosphere was superb. The decor was charming; we were told that Fleet Street journalists amd city lawyers hang around here. That may have been the case but I could not make out this being a Saturday. My Graham's port wine was smooth. Very enjoyable!”
