Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often praise the authentic Thai flavour. Several say other local Thai places make dishes too sweet, while the cooking here tastes correct, and one who lived in Thailand calls it the closest match to what they ate there. Massaman curry, in chicken and lamb versions, comes up most. Close behind are Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, Tom Yum Goong, red curry, yellow curry, stir fried beef, ribs and spicy duck. The small, family run room is described as cosy, warm and friendly, and a birthday group of twelve says it felt welcomed. Value for money recurs, and one reviewer would like sticky rice added to the menu. The main complaint comes from one diner on a third visit, who describes an older waitress tutting and sighing while taking the order, plus an overdone prawn toast and very chewy squid. That diner says they asked for the service charge to be removed, was told it was illegal, and after a back and forth the charge was finally deducted from the bill.

“Upon entering this restaurant, you immediately feel its classic Thai atmosphere: portraits of the Thai king on the walls, wood sculptures, Buddha statues, and plants throughout the space. A member of staff slowly comes down from the upper floor to ask what you would like. This old-fashioned feel continues throughout the experience, from enjoying Thai prawn crackers after you order to the dishes being served with traditional Thai-style cutlery. My favourites remain: Massaman chicken curry, a medium southern Thai curry; Pad Thai, stir-fried rice noodles; Coconut rice; Pad Pak, stir-fried mixed vegetables with soy sauce; Tom Yum Goong, a hot and sour prawn soup with mushrooms; and very spicy and exciting Thai-style salads. The dishes maintain the authentic, distinctive kick of Thai cuisine, and they have clearly not been made overly sweet to cater to Western tastes, as some other Thai restaurants in the city have done.”

“Nothing not to like; we had a Sunday evening birthday meal for 12 and the nid ting were very welcoming from the get go. Everything was delicious, ribs, spicy duck, and yellow curry were standout, staff and service were so warm and friendly, and it was excellent value for money, less than £30 per head for food and drink. Super place, thank you for hosting a lovely evening.”

“The food is not to die for but it is good and the price is reasonable hence why I’ve been more than once. I paid my third visit with my partner the other day, and unfortunately that would be my last. The service in this restaurant is a critical issue, and having now read reviews that have touched on this, it is obvious that this is huge flaw of the restaurant. During the visit, the service from the older lady was bottom barrel. She approached the table with clear impatience despite the restaurant not being busy. She tutted, sighed and made visible expressions of frustration when taking our order, it honestly felt as though we were an inconvenience rather than customers. The food itself wasn’t actually greatest this time around, opted for the prawn toast and it was overdone and the squid was very chewy, although I have previously had the duck curry and that was nice. When it came to paying, we politely asked that the service charge be removed, she then refused and called the act illegal. We explained that her service was very poor and having been here before, it made us feel even more disappointed. She persisted the argument claimed that we should still pay service charge despite the poor service provided, as the restaurant has to wash the dishes we ate from. In the end she gave in and deducted the service charge from the bill. It was truly a horrible way to end the evening. I have never in my life, had to go back and forth to explain to a restaurant owner that their poor service warrants not paying service charge. What a shame. The food is good and affordable, but I cannot help but think, that I would rather pay a little bit more elsewhere knowing that the food is served with a better experience.”
