About Bar Bruno

Breakfast anchors the counter at Bar Bruno, a sandwich shop and cafe on Wardour Street in London, where the BB full breakfast brings eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, beans, mushrooms, black pudding and bubble and squeak with toast and a cup of tea included. The wider menu runs to 83 dishes, taking in omelettes, jacket potatoes, pasta and plates such as eggs Benedict, while sandwiches and rolls are built to order at the counter, the tuna melt among them. Off-menu and dietary requests are accommodated, so a plain omelette or gluten-free toast can be asked for. Seating spreads across the upstairs room and a basement below. No booking is taken, so customers order at the counter and find a table. Takeaway and delivery both suit anyone eating off site. The kitchen works daily, and hash browns can be added to orders beyond the breakfasts.

Customer Review Summary

The full English breakfast anchors nearly every account, with reviewers cataloguing the eggs, sausages, hash browns, baked beans on toast and the included mug of tea, and repeatedly calling the portions generous enough that some could not finish. Close behind sit the breakfast sandwiches and cooked plates, with diners naming the shepherd's pie, liver and onions with mash, smoked salmon Benedict, the BLT and an omelette topped with the house chili sauce, which one called excellent. Several describe a no frills, family run room busy with locals, cabbies and theatre workers. Bacon divides opinion, described as not crispy by one visitor and a bit salty by another. Two reviewers complain that orders are not heard properly, one recounting a tuna melt arriving as chicken and cheese, an unclear eat in versus takeaway charge, and a snarky remark from staff about clearing plates; one mentions flies, and another warns off the toilets. Regulars note the basement seating is less pleasant than upstairs, though one still found it more authentic.

“Had really great british breakfast! Portions are huge. There are plenty of locals instead of tourists which is a pleasant welcome while being in central London. Would definitely recommend!”

“A true authentic breakfast spot, right in the center of Soho. Food comes out quickly and portions are enormous. All breakfast come with toast and a cup of tea. Hustling and bustling with activity. Great for people watching and an glimpse into Soho early morning”

“I walked in with a family member. We were asked by a male server if we were takeaway or eat in, to which we said eat in. A lady server then took over, and she seemed very enthusiastic about her job, so kudos. Helped us order. My family member received her order in a takeout bag, but we didn't think much of it, and she went to sit down. Nobody said anything. The man making the sandwiches behind the counter clarified what I wanted, to which I said a tuna melt. He said 'with cheese?' So I said yes. He gave me a chicken and cheese sandwhich, and when I went to a staff member, they swapped it for me but the male server from earlier told me 'that wasn't my order and I shouldn't have picked it up' ? Yes, but I did clarify what I wanted? I was then brought my actual order on a plate, and then told eating in and taking away are different prices, 'just for next time'. I had said when I walked in we wanted to eat in, but the communication between staff was poor. When we finished, we tried to bring our plates/bags/rubbish away from the table to be polite and help clean. A different male staff member then made a snarky comment about us not deciding between eating in or taking away, and to leave it on the table because whats the point of paying for their service? I just wanted to be polite after causing a mix up with the sandwiches but that comment really upset me. The lady server was lovely but overall atmosphere was awkward and unhospitable. Also, the bench in the far right rocks and is unstable. There was also flies all about.”

“Bruno Bar in Soho is another absolute gem. They serve some of the best breakfasts around, along with delicious pasta, freshly made paninis, and an incredible liver and onions with creamy mashed potatoes and rich gravy. Great food, generous portions, friendly staff, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Definitely one of my favourite spots in Soho!”

“I have been here many times, and it's usually my "go to" for a very reasonable priced meal in the centre of the West end. It might not be everyone's cup of tea, but if you want a genuine London experience, where you brush shoulders with cabbies and theatre workers, you should try here. Upstairs is definitely nicer than down ! They do take away food and drinks as well.”
