About Six Portland Road
Six Portland Road is a modern European restaurant in the Notting Hill area of London, at 6 Portland Rd. The menu includes several mackerel dishes, among them mackerel Cornettos, which give diners looking for something out of the ordinary a distinctive order. Customer Review Summary
Diners most often single out the food, with the mackerel Cornettos, the grilled dove and the hake named as standouts, and the complimentary soda bread described as "to die for". Close behind are the service, called friendly, warm and personal, and a wine list reviewers call great. Others mention beetroot tartlets, scallops, short rib, fresh fish and a pasta that is tasty without becoming heavy. The set lunch gets praise for giving a good taste of the kitchen, and the outdoor terrace in spring and summer is called dreamy. The main caveats are cost and one service letdown. One reviewer finds mains rather expensive, while another was told there was no ice for water because of the hot weather and felt the lack of initiative ended the evening before it began. Several say they plan to return, and one waiter even emailed the soda bread recipe the day after a visit.

“Sadly, our dinner booking finished before it started… just when we asked for an ice (to have with water) we have been explained there will be no ice due to extremely hot weather. I will leave comments on a side, with Tesco being around the corner and Deliveroo providing ice in tons in case of shortages. With such high expectations we had prior arriving, this simple lack of initiative, basic service provision, and genuine care for clients withdrawn our interest for what might happen next. So sad, so very, very sad.”

“Excellent food across all three courses and very warm service. One of the best meals we’ve had after 3 years in Notting Hill.”

“Outstanding restaurant in every respect. Delicious food, faultless service and great ambience. The Soda Bread (complimentary) is to die for. Our waiter Harvey, was warm, funny and welcoming. He kindly offered to send me the top secret recipe for the Soda Bread which he did the following day. I would wholeheartedly and unreservedly commend this restaurant to family and friends. Already planning our return!”
