About Mangal 2 Restaurant
Mangal 2 Restaurant is a Turkish restaurant in London, at 4 Stoke Newington Rd, with an Anatolian menu of 15 dishes built partly around cull yaw, which is mutton. The Cull Yaw Kofte With Grilled Apple sits among the grilled meats, and the kitchen also tops pide with cull yaw fat. The Sourdough Pide With Cultured Kayamk Butter belongs to the same range of sourdough flatbreads. Natural wines run alongside the food. A set menu is offered, with a separate lunch menu. Desserts include a rhubarb baklava with vanilla ice cream, and Turkish tea arrives in tulip-shaped glasses. A private dining room is available for groups.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often single out the smoked hummus served with pide made with cull yaw fat, and the sourdough flatbread is a repeated draw that one reviewer couldn't stop ordering. Close behind are the lamb ribs, which reviewers pair with molasses or smoked grapes, and the grilled poussin, eaten with chilli sauce and pickled onion. Others name the courgette mücver, stone bass with fermented olives, Adana kebab, cull yaw kofte, and a tahini and apple tart, apricot sorbet or rhubarb baklava to finish. The set menu is described as generous, with portions that left one couple stuffed. Service is called friendly, attentive and proactive, and one reviewer says a table pushed back was handled well. The main criticism comes from one reviewer who found the lamb ribs not very tender, fatty and a bit sour in seasoning, with a table knife that struggled to cut the meat, though the lamb neck won praise. One regular describes a birthday lunch that ended with puddings brought out with a candle.

“Love this restaurant. I think it’s really good value. In particular I love the lamb ribs with molasses, the apricot sorbet and the grilled poussin which went perfectly with the chilli sauce and pickled onion. The smoked olive oil houmous with cull yaw fat pide is also a must”

“Travelled to London from York to visit with my wife, this was 2 years ago so I apologise for the late review but our experience in the restaurant has stood out as one of the best we've had and felt it necessary to post a review albeit a bit late. We went specifically for the lunch menu and were not disappointed, standouts were the delicious sourdough flatbreads that I couldn't stop ordering and the chicken wing that was impressively deboned, stuffed with dolma filling (if I remember correctly) and grilled to perfection. The dessert, a rhubarb baklava with a thick slice of vanilla ice cream between the pastry top and bottom was heavenly. I love Turkish food (sorry to my Hungarian heritage) and I loved what they were doing, and continue to do. We really look forward to revisiting.”

“I’ve come 3 times! As a restaurant owner, I admire the approach they take to dining, a true gem in the London scene My most recent visit was on a Saturday lunch shift for my fiancé’s birthday, I didn’t realise I had set the booking to mention this but at the end of the meal they surprised us with their puddings with a candle and caught us all off guard, incredibly generous I love all of what they do here :)”

“Had a great time again, one of those spots you just keep going back to. Food was exceptional as always, but the service this time was even better. Georgia properly looked after us. Our table got pushed back a bit, but she handled it so well and made sure the whole experience still felt spot on. Will 100% be back again.”

“The lamb ribs were not very tender, with quite a lot of fat, and the seasoning was a bit too sour for my taste. It was also a pity that the table knife provided in the restaurant made it quite difficult to cut through the meat. The lamb neck had a rich, deep flavor that became more enjoyable the more you chewed. The starch at the bottom absorbed the meat juices, and paired perfectly with the yogurt. The female server was very friendly and proactive in her recommendations and service, which is truly commendable.”
