  “Visited this restaurant today and got jollof rice and beef stew x2. I will say the Customer service was fine. The Lady was lovely but the only issue I have is I asked for the stew to be separate and was willing to pay for another small pot of stew with meat but was told that each piece of meat is £1 and she will not be able to give me any stew with that portion of meat which I thought was a bit silly as I am paying . The small meat that entered that container was a joke tbh.”

  “As someone mentioned already, age plays a huge role on how you'd be treated here. I was cursed with eternal youth so I go that rude treatment full doze here. Heard so much bout their food till I had the misfortune of tasting it. Hard rubber-like rice, chewing gum type meat and of course customer service from hell. Extremely untidy environ. To each their own this isn't the place for me!”

  “I haven't tried it yet but definitely will try it, because of the food and name of the local. I wonder if the owners of the local know that one of the characters in Polish version of cartoon Moomins has the same name as their local:)”

  “Food is really nice been coming here for years with my daughter friendly staff and food is always delicious only thing I would say is that they don’t deliver maybe they should consider this but overall a lovely place to eat”

  “I had the worst experience in here today. First the woman that served me was so rude and dismissive towards me because I am a young adult. I called back to understand how the money I paid increased, instead of her to speak to me in a calm, relaxing tone she was shouting and ended the call when I told her off about her bad behavior. I am genuinely upset that age has to play a role on who receives respect in this place. I definitely know where I am not accepted at and is it Island buka deptford. Secondly, I ordered ayamase and all I received was rice and lots of meat but the ayamase sauce was nowhere to be found. This is unacceptable.”

  “Best Nigerian food in London. I love the rice, beans, hot sauce and assorted meat. The prices for what you get is incredible. Sad I don’t live closer to deptford these days The service isn’t super friendly but I don’t care anymore lol”

  “Well.... as long as you like your food tasty, fast, normal portions and with a little rude Nigerian lady serving you, then Island Buka is for you. Been going here for 10yr+ and I've learnt not to expect world class service but good food at a good price. Keep it simple- get your food, eat it there or get out. Helps if you understand yoruba (in my opinion) lol. I still love this place”

  “i see they haven't changed then! used to get takout from here years ago when i lived in deptford. was always a terrible experience due to customer service. i'm not sure why a business would treat its customers with such contempt. it seems the new generation of nigerian restaurants are really stepping up and telling their staff there's nothing wrong with smiling and being nice!!”

  “Staff were extremely rude, kissed their teeth whenever we asked for anything and placed our food order which we waited 30 minutes to do before they acknowledged us. Food came and was greasy and freezing cold, no effort made to fix this when we complained we were left with the inedible food. Asked to speak to the manager and before we could say anything he started screaming at us. Would never recommend and never go back”
