About Meze Mangal Restaurant
Meze Mangal Restaurant is a Turkish restaurant at 245 Lewisham Way in London, run by two brothers and open daily. The dining room is wood-panelled and spacious, and the kitchen works from a charcoal-style grill and an oven for pide. Starters and mains are shared at the table, beginning with cold and hot meze that include Borek. Minced lamb kebab leads the grilled meats, and pizzas also appear on the menu. The house chilli sauce follows a secret recipe, and diners can carry it home in little pots. Portions are large, so the team boxes leftovers for the trip home. The drinks list centres on house Turkish wine, and there is no cocktail menu.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often praise freshly prepared Turkish food, with the minced lamb kebab and the grilled meats singled out as delicious. Close behind are the creamy hummus, a dry house Turkish wine one reviewer called a steal, and a secret recipe chilli sauce so liked that one diner took three little pots home. Portions are described as generous, with some struggling to finish and one table asking for a box for leftovers. Staff are repeatedly called friendly and kind, and the room spacious and clean. The criticism is sharp but comes from two of the ten. One reviewer found the stuffed vine leaves frozen solid, the borek sitting in oil, and the beans and dips tasting shop bought, so they skipped the mains and called the manager defensive. Another found it only OK next to similar restaurants, citing an unimpressive drinks selection with no cocktail menu. Among the happier accounts, a returning family said the manager remembered them after years abroad, and a party of eight was seated together quickly.

“Went here for dinner with a friend and it was a first for both of us. We ordered a cold meze that came with one hot meze option so we chose the Borek. We both ordered a large bottle of water, one sparkling and one still. They were so warm that they melted the two ice cubes in thr glasses they gave us instantly. The stuffed vine leaves were so cold and hard you can tell it had been frozen and was not defrosted properly. It was freezing cold (not fridge cold) and the rice was stuck together, it was absolutely awful. The mixed beans were clearly from a jar from a Turkish shop, the dips were absolutely awful and tasted like cheap shop bought ones. The bread was like the stale fat turkish bread you get from turkiah shop but like its old and not homemade. The Borek was full of oil, you could tell it from the moment it was placed on the table. I cut into it and took a bite and it was so oily. At that point we decided to not even bother to ordering any mains and just asking for the bill. We ddint want to risk paying for mains and being let down on them as well. What i think was the manager came over and asked why we were leaving and with having such a full plate and I explained why. He said of course the borek was oily its fried in oil, well we know they are fried in oil but are they left sitting in it for an hour? We explained the vine leaves were solid frozen and the food just wasnt upto standards, we weren't even rude about it and wouldn't have even bothered saying anything if he didnt ask as we didnt want to come across rude. The bill came to about £43 for all of that, hes blessed that we are Muslim and didn't just walk out without paying, which in hindsight we feel like we should have done and would have been well withing our right to do so as hardly any food was eaten as it was absolutely disgusting and inedible. Not sure how this restaurant has survived so long unless its used to just people with bland taste buds that don know what proper turkish food taste likes. Will stick to travelling to north London for authentic, tasty and edible turkish food in future. Next tkme acknowledge what your customers are saying and take it on board instead of being so rude and defensive. We ended up going elsewhere to eat!!! There was also no atmosphere in there at all.”

“Just great food with kind service, who wants anything else? We ordered 3 starters and 4 main dishes with 4. Food was quick and fresh and portions were enough to ask for a box to take home any leftovers. Staff was super kind and helpful. We will definitely come back again!”

“Arrived to a packed restaurant for a Mother's meal a party of 8, we were all seated together very quickly A great selection on the menu to choose from, we wisely only got two starters to share. Our tasty main courses arrived and the portion sizes was very generous. Freshly cooked, struggled to finish and had no room for desserts. We all enjoyed our meals, nice atmosphere and the bill was reasonable.”

“A taste of traditional Turkish food, freshly prepared in simple surroundings. Family run by two brothers everything is freshly made the Kasir is amazing the hummus creamy. The house Turkish wine is dry and minerals at £24 it is a steal. For those who like chilli sauce their secret recipe sauce is insane….they should bottle it. I took three little pots home. Highly recommend”
