About Tom's Pasta

Tom's Pasta is an Italian restaurant in London, at 17 Amhurst Terrace, serving its food from Hackney Downs Studios. The kitchen puts a nduja lasagne and a beef shin lasagne on the menu, and the beef shin version comes with béchamel and cheese. Dishes arrive with grated Parmesan over the top, and bread or sourdough is served with Parmesan butter. Burrata is available as a starter, and tiramisu closes the meal as a big scoop. The restaurant runs on walk-in. Drinks are ordered separately at the bar, with one bar at the front of the venue and another at the back. Larger groups can use the front restaurant or the garden, with set menus and pre-orders arranged ahead.

Customer Review Summary

Lasagne is the draw at Tom's Pasta, with reviewers singling out the nduja lasagne for its heat and the beef shin lasagne for tender meat and plenty of béchamel. Close behind are the bread with Parmesan butter, the burrata and the tiramisu, served as a big scoop. A sundried tomato and mascarpone pasta and a summer basil pesto lasagna also earn praise, as does a strong espresso martini. Groups come up repeatedly, with diners describing birthdays and a company party handled through pre-orders and a set menu they call affordable, plus friendly, quick service. The main criticism is the cheese. One reviewer describes everything arriving under a mountain of Parmesan and says the table tired of it, and another calls the beef lasagna overflowing with cheese. That same reviewer found the plain lasagna dry and the nduja carbonara more like a creamy nduja pasta, and also found the room very loud. Another reviewer wanted a more traditional garlic knot. One reviewer rated the garlic bread the best thing they ate.

“Loved the food here. Great value too! We got the three course lasagna meal (burrata, choice of two lasagnas, tiramisu) all for £25! A bargain! The summer basil pesto lasagna was so so good. And finally, the service was excellent. We will be back!”

“Cannot recommend this place enough for a large group dinner (or indeed a smaller group dinner!) Hosted my bday here in Jan for 35 (!) people and the team (especially Clo) were AMAZING. They basically let us take over the whole front restaurant - created such a great vibe and plied us with tons of delicious lasagne/pasta/tiramisu. Everyone raved about both the food and the atmosphere and the whole thing was great value too (where a lot of places charge an INSANE amount for group set menus with v small portions...) The fact that you order your own drinks separately from the bar also makes this a super easy spot to coordinate a large dinner as you don't have the awkward menu total up at the end. There's also something for everyone on the menu and they're really flexible with the pre-orders. 10/10.”

“I love Tom’s Pasta so much. Had my 30th birthday there last week for a big group of friends and it was perfect. The staff are so lovely and the set menu for big groups is delicious and very affordable. Will absolutely be back soon!”

“The staff were really welcoming and efficient, and the food came out really quickly.(On a Friday evening!) I had the beef lasagna, which was absolutely overflowing with cheese. It was nice, but I actually enjoyed the starters more. I had the bread with Parmesan butter and the burrata, and both were delicious. And delicious tiramisu which had just the right amount of sweetness to end the meal. Would definitely come back to try their other pastas.”

“We recently hosted our company Summer Party at Tom's Pasta, hiring both the garden and the restaurant space, and it couldn't have been more perfect. The venue had exactly the right balance - intimate enough for everyone to chat and mingle, while still giving people plenty of room to relax and enjoy the evening. From the moment we arrived, Tom and his team made us feel incredibly welcome. The food was, quite simply, outstanding. The selection of starters was fantastic, and every dish that followed was just as memorable. Having Tom himself serving the lasagne was such a special touch, and seven seconds of freshly grated Parmesan on top (yes, we counted!) definitely lived up to the hype. Throughout the evening, the team were so accommodating and flexible. As everyone was having such a great time, we ended up pushing back some of our planned timings, and nothing was ever too much trouble. The service was seamless, with bars at both the front and back of the venue, as well as staff regularly circulating with drinks, so there were never long queues or crowded areas. The entire evening exceeded our expectations. The atmosphere, the food, the service, and the hospitality were all exceptional, and weeks later our colleagues are still talking about how incredible the food was. A huge thank you to Tom, Clo, Akos and the whole team for making our Summer Party so special. We couldn't recommend Tom's Pasta more highly for anyone looking to host a memorable event.”
