Quick info
About Wood Green Chinese
Wood Green Chinese is a Chinese restaurant in London at 138 High Rd, built around big bowl noodle soups with Ho-Fun, thick rice noodles, or thin noodles. Crispy pork and chow mein sit alongside the soups, and the kitchen also cooks Malaysian and Thai dishes. Ordering happens at the counter. Guests pay there, collect a red tray with cutlery, and the food is brought to the table. Payment is cash only, so diners need to arrive with cash in hand. Soy sauce and crispy chili oil sit on the table for self-service, and Chinese tea and green tea are served. No alcohol is sold. The restaurant opens every day except Tuesdays, when it is closed.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often come for the big bowls of noodle soup, with Ho-Fun or thin noodles and won-ton or fish ball, praised for generous portions and a flavourful broth that is not oily. Close behind are the crispy pork and the wide choice of noodles, with tender meats and quick service. Several call the taste authentic, old school and good value, and one rates it above Chinatown. The setting is basic, with worn menus and an interior some say needs a refresh, and cash only is one reviewer's catch. The sharpest complaints concern consistency: a four-year regular says the prawns in the special chow mein have all but vanished, and one delivery order was described as bland, with undercooked vegetables, soggy chips and a thin, slightly green curry sauce. Another finds dining in better than ordering through a delivery app. One diner's sauce-stained tray was swapped out after a quick look.

“Definitely old school! Taste is authentic and nice. Great value. May not be the best place for a romantic date night, but it’s a great place for a yummy bite near wood green area.”

“ordered online yesterday and the food, while delivered on time, was the worst chinese food i have ever eaten. aside from being overpriced for a meal i couldn’t even bring myself to finish, the food was completely bland, too many vegetables, all undercooked and the chips were somehow soggy and dry. the chicken in the chow mein tasted like it had been boiled and had the most dreadful texture. the curry sauce tasted completely off, was water thin and was slightly green.”

“The food was delicious, hot and flavourful. A good selection. The meats were tender and succulent. Food came out quickly. I really like that they give you a red tray with cutlery when you pay for your food. My tray was a little dirty with sauce which made my plate dirty but they changed it out after examaining it for a few seconds🤣. Everyone was polite, one of the ladies was a bit odd, stern face like she would tell you off in a second but apart from that, all was good when eating in. The menus could definitely do with an update as they are worn out. The interior could do with a refresh however this place is a MUST if you want authentic Chinese food that taste great! You can park in the wood green mall, or pay to park one street over. I believe the side streets are free after 9pm”
