Customer Review Summary

The full English breakfast draws the most attention, and opinions split sharply. Two diners call theirs lovely and delicious, one adding that the cappuccino was lush, while others report stone cold bacon, cheap-tasting sausages, and mushrooms that tasted canned or fried in old oil. One of those reviewers left half the plate untouched over food poisoning worries. Dinner is similarly mixed. Fish and chips are called excellent, and a pepperoni pizza and spaghetti bolognese are described as delicious. Another table found the minestrone watered down and the lamb chops and sirloin poorly cooked after 9 PM. The owner and staff earn steady praise as friendly, helpful, and accommodating, though one reviewer describes a hostile manager when returning to look for a lost item. A late visitor found the apple pie nice and filling even with the cheesecake sold out, and one breakfast diner was allowed to swap an egg for an extra sausage.

“Passed this place many times in Paddington and the photos outside always looked inviting, so my wife and I finally tried it. Big disappointment. We ordered minestrone, lamb chops, sirloin, and a salad. The soup arrived late and tasted like watered-down tomato paste. The meat was poorly cooked — possibly because we came after 9 PM and the grill had cooled off. At restaurant-level prices, you expect restaurant-level food. The pizzas going to other tables looked far better, so that may be the safer bet. The owner is friendly, but kindness can’t make up for the food. Won’t be returning.”

“Honestly, this might be one of the worst café restaurants and breakfasts I’ve ever been served or been to. The breakfast was so bad that I left half of it untouched in case of food poisoning. It really was that poor. The bacon was cooked but stone cold, the sausage was one of the worst I’ve ever seen, and the mushrooms tasted like they came straight out of a can I’d be shocked if they were fresh. The decor is somewhat nice and the staff seemed okay, but that’s just surface level. What matters is the food they’re serving customers, and it was genuinely disappointing. I felt sorry for the two American (or Canadian) tourists who walked in this might have been one of their first stops in London, and they were met with this. It’s no wonder why they’d get a bad impression of British food. For £13, it’s not cheap either. Would not recommend. Update: I returned to the restaurant shortly after leaving, just to check if I might have accidentally left something behind in the bathroom. I was immediately met by a very hostile manager who aggressively questioned why I was there, assuming I just wanted to use the toilet. Even though there may have been a slight miscommunication, the attitude was unnecessarily rude and confrontational. In the end he eventually let me check, who presume was restaurant owner but the whole interaction felt very unwelcoming for no good reason. Whether I left anything or not is beside the point I honestly doubt they would have returned it to me if I had. Thankfully, I had already cancelled the two items I was carrying, so anyone who tries to use them will be in for a nasty surprise when they discover they no longer work.”

“Stopped in for a fry-up after taking the Heathrow Express following a really long (13 hours!) flight which landed at around 8am. Came in to this caff simply because it was close to the station and was pretty empty. We were rather sorry to have come here. The fry-ups were both pretty rank; the sausages were obviously cheap, the bacon was substandard and the mushrooms were disgusting - I have no idea what oil they were fried in but it tasted like it should have been changed decades ago. The tomato looked like it had committed hara-kiri before cooking, it was so emaciated and depressed. Our son's chicken nuggets and chips weren't much better. He didn't eat all of it and I can't blame him. The staff were ok, no problems there, and they allowed me to swap the egg in my breakfast for an extra sausage. If I'd known how bad it was going to be, I wouldn't have asked.”

“My first visit to La Tazza Cafe, but it certainly won't be my last. The full English breakfast was so delicious, and great value for money. Next time ... 🍕 !”
