About Montparnasse Cafe
Montparnasse Cafe is a French-style cafe in London, on Thackeray St, and it opens daily. The croissants come plain and in several savory varieties, and the pastries are baked fresh. The menu also covers brunch, with a croque monsieur among the hot dishes. For something sweet, the counter holds cakes, desserts and a raspberry tart. Coffee, mocha and tea are served at marble-topped tables. The cafe runs a no laptop policy, which tells anyone planning to work there what to expect.

Customer Review Summary
Croissants draw the most praise, with reviewers naming the plain, tomato and cheese, mushroom and cheese, and ham and cheese versions and describing the pastries as buttery and flaky. Close behind are the raspberry tart, croque monsieur, shakshuka, granola and gateau, plus a mocha one reviewer calls the best in a very long time. The setting is described as cosy, calm and bohemian, with a Parisian feel, and several find the staff friendly. Service is where opinions split. One reviewer felt ignored by two staff members at the counter until asking to order. Another says a server reacted rudely when asked for prices, since none were displayed. A takeaway customer reports the boss refused toilet use. Others mention a watery Americano served in a huge cup, a dry eclair that wasn't fresh, and cramped seating. One reviewer says a cake that never arrived was removed from the bill without any apology.

“What an excellent stop for a quick takeaway! But unfortunately the boss of the Cafe informed me that I shouldn't use the toilet, because it is takeaway!!! Could be possible if I take a sit and after can get toilet... I really couldn't!!! I can't understand why they were so cruel! I don't like to do bad reviews, but now it i really deserves.”

“Lovely and calm French café. Excellent pastries and coffee. Very friendly and attentive young men working in the café. Would 100% recommend.”

“Shakshuka was impeccable, the granola and gateau were great too. The interior is beautiful. No prices are shown on anything (unless I am mistaken) and when I asked for the prices the server looked at me strange and generally handled me asking for prices in a bit of a rude manor. Seating was a little cramped.”

“I wasn’t really greeted warmly when I entered. Two female staff chatting and ignored me, and looked at me like “what do you want” attitude, until I asked to order something. Aside from the cold, strange service, the Americano I ordered wasn’t really tasty, and was served similar to a Costa coffee - a huge bucket of watery coffee which I couldn’t finish. They appear to be French so it would be nice just to serve a coffee in a normal cup. I also got an eclair. It was quite tasty but it definitely wasn’t fresh. Was a bit dry and old and was expensive I won’t be in a rush back, although the cafe itself is aesthetically pleasing. Service was off, and made me feel unwelcome.”
