Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the friendly, welcoming staff, from a server who answered questions about the beers to managers who chatted with guests and a server who made fantastic cocktails. Food comes close behind, with fish and chips with mushy peas and curry sauce, steak and ale pie, salmon, and chicken schnitzel all named, along with mushroom toast and sticky toffee pudding. One reviewer calls the homemade elderflower, mint and lime drink incredibly refreshing. Many describe a beautiful historic Soho pub full of character, with the George Orwell and Constable history as a draw and a cosy, quiet dining room upstairs. The trade-off is crowding. The pub can get mobbed after work on weekdays, and one reviewer calls it tiny, with drinkers spilling onto the street. One visitor found no food on offer because the kitchen was being renovated, and one reviewer suggests coming in the middle of the day rather than only at peak hours. Another reviewer was pleased to find five casks on, four ales and a cider.

“One of my favourite pubs in Soho, friendly staff, great service, incredible history. Ive had many memorable nights here, weekdays or on the weekend with and without food. Can't go wrong here, and is a great pub for the Nicholsons brand. +++ Has air conditioning on the inside”

“Great atmosphere in a beautiful historic pub right in the heart of Soho. The homemade elderflower, mint & lime drink was incredibly refreshing and full of natural flavor—highly recommended. Friendly service, cozy surroundings, and a great place to take a break from the busy streets outside. Would definitely visit again!”

“This attractive and historic pub can get mobbed after work on a weekday - it’s on a busy corner spot in prime Soho. However, upstairs there is a cosy and quiet dining room which is well worth a visit. The Nicholson’s menu is always high quality and good value and I can recommend both the salmon and chicken schnitzel both of which are usually available in all branches of the chain. A special mention to the superb staff, especially the young German guy on duty in the restaurant. He was exceptionally friendly and welcoming.”

“The Dog and Duck is an atmospheric pub steeped in tradition. If you want to experience the true spirit of London, with historical figures in the background (Constable, Orwell – past regulars!) – come here. We popped in for a moment and left after two hours, a great meal, and great spirits. This was certainly thanks to our guide, Ben, who is the Assistant Manager here. Thank you very much, and we will definitely be back! PS: It's great to come here not only during "peak hours," but, like us, in the middle of the day...”
