About The Londesborough

The Londesborough is a gastropub in London at 36 Barbauld Rd, with a spacious former billiard room and atrium at the back and a dartboard in the front bar, so a game and a meal share the same building. The Sunday roasts menu includes roast pork belly, and a sharing platter pairs roast chicken, beef and lamb with Yorkshires and sides. Cocktails sit on the menu beside pub classics such as burgers and fish and chips. Parquet and boarded floors, exposed brick and green-panelled walls make up the interior, along with trinkets and bric-a-brac. The pub also hosts weddings and receptions, and it can cater a fully vegetarian wedding as well as gluten-free menus for larger parties.

Customer Review Summary

The Sunday roast is the draw reviewers raise most, with the trio of roasts (chicken, beef and lamb) and the roast pork belly singled out, and one diner praising a sharing platter with smoky half chicken, crackling pork and Yorkshires crisp yet soft enough to soak up gravy. Close behind are weddings, where several couples and a guest describe a friendly, well organised team, a room laid out as requested, a fully vegetarian menu catered for and gluten free options handled well. Cocktails, the banoffee pie and a Christmas pudding also earn praise, along with the beer garden with its large parasol for drizzle. The one caveat comes from a single roast diner who found the Yorkshire pudding could have been fresher and fluffier and the roast potatoes lacking a golden crisp. Reviewers also mention a dog-friendly, family-friendly feel and a pint that hit the spot, and several suggest booking a wedding here or simply popping in for a pint, with one guest saying the staff worked tirelessly throughout the reception.

“We love this local pub - it’s a family friendly spot (and dog-friendly too), they do an incredible roast on a Sunday and some really lovely cocktails. The outdoor garden is a lovely space on a hot day with shade from the sun and if it’s the usual British weather, there’s a huge parasol to protect from the drizzle. They have an outdoor bbq grill in the summer which looked really good. I had the roast pork belly from the roasts menu and it was perfect. Other members of our group said how delicious the trio of roasts is, a mix of roast chicken, beef and lamb. Staff are friendly and I couldn’t fault the food. Try the dessert. Any dessert. My favourite is the banoffee pie. Keep it up guys. Stokey has a little gem here.”

“North London roast royalty without a doubt. Myself, a roast loving Irishman, and my foodie American friend came to the Londesborough on the toss of a coin. We were lucky as this was a biblical roast experience. We opted for the sharing platter for £50, this came with 3 meats, a smoky half chicken, tender roast beef and crackling pork that would put the fear of god into an atheist. The sides were a delight with some surprises in there like beetroot. The Yorkshires were more risen than jesus at easter, crispy yet soft enough to soak up the gravy and other sauces available. As you can see in the pictures, this is a proper feed with every item given love and care. Will be returning for sure!”

“Rectory Road 🍺 £6.10 Amstel The Londesborough is located on a quiet backstreet in Stoke Newington, Northeast London. The nearest station is Rectory Road. The pub first opened its doors in 1868 and was originally known as The Londesborough Tavern. By 1879, it was one of only four pubs in the area to hold a billiards licence. This is the sister pub to The Blue Posts in Soho. This is a good-sized, one-bar pub that is traditionally decorated. The servery is located at the front and has a limed-wash finish. The bar area at the front is slightly narrow, with a dartboard to the left. At the back of the main bar is what would have been the billiard room, which is spacious and has an atrium above and a hatch to the kitchen. The decor consists of boarded and parquet floors, exposed brick, and green-panelled walls, plenty of traditional seating, plus an interesting array of trinkets and bric-a-brac. At the rear of the pub is a beer garden, plus a few benches at the front of the pub for the warmer months. The beer selection was solid and offered a mix of familiar favourites, local brews, and cask ale. I decided on an Amstel; my pint hit the spot, price point was average. The food menu features burgers and pub classics: fish and chips cost £17, and roasts take centre stage on Sundays. I arrived at 2pm on a drizzly Saturday afternoon in February. I met up with my Mate Neil for a couple of bevvies and a catch up. The pub was fairly busy with a large group at the back and a few diners at the front. The atmosphere was chilled and relaxed, so everything was nice and easy. The service was excellent, the two team members on duty were friendly and chatty. There are 22 pubs in Stoke Newington, most of which are of the highest calibre. This was my last pub to visited in N16, and it didn’t disappoint. The stunning Victorian architecture, traditional surroundings, and welcoming hospitality all made for an enjoyable pub experience. 📅 7th February 2026”
