Customer Review Summary

Diners most often single out the food, with miso dishes at the center: a miso salmon with mushroom dashi, broccoli and rice, and miso chicken skewers, alongside a chicken schnitzel and an apple and rhubarb crumble. Reviewers also praise the outdoor area with its heaters and TVs, the friendly staff, a pub quiz, and a wedding buffet they called delicious. Food quality draws the sharpest complaints. One reviewer describes a rubbery steak ordered medium rare and kids meals that arrived frozen after a long wait, another found nachos made from fried lavash and fried chicken that tasted reheated, and a third criticizes a chicken burger with blackened bacon. A few call the prices high. A large group booked outside reports being told by phone they could watch the full World Cup match, then finding notices closing the area after the first half, silent outdoor TVs, and no wristbands for moving indoors. One wedding party found the conservatory windows do not open, leaving the room too hot to use for a few hours while guests moved to the beer garden.

“What a gem of a pub! Me and my mates just stumbled upon it while looking for somewhere for food and drink. One of the best pubs I’ve been to in a while. Great food, good drinks and the pub quiz we ended up joining was a lot of fun too!”

“£19.50 for a chicken burger Jamie Oliver would have shut a school down for. Bacon blackened to charcoal. Chicken overcooked more than a Taylor Swift lyric. Gherkins described by ChatGPT before it could spell. Lettuce with low self-esteem. Seriously, what was the brief to the chef? The last takeaway open in Blackpool at 2am, on a Monday, in off-season? Sort reviews by new to see the other complaints about the quality of the food. Again: £19.50 for a chicken burger that looks like it was discovered down the back of a radiator at a youth club. Look at the pictures. Do they scream “50p change from a Twenty”? Less a meal, more a warning from the Universe about the dangers of capitalism. Comfy outdoor seating.”

“First time coming here with my 2 girls and would 100% come back! Was wary coming bcos the pics of the outdoor area didn’t look that inviting but I was v wrong! Great outdoor area, couple of outdoor TVs and heaters around for the colder night. When we arrived went to the bar for staff to take us to our reserved outdoor table and there was an error in the booking but, special mention to Paulina who made sure we were sorted for the night was the highlight of our experience! One of the best services I’ve had at a pub! Great vibes all round! Highly recommend! :)”

“Really disappointing experience here, which is a shame because this could be a really great pub if it weren’t for the staff/ overall management. We were part of a large booking in the outside area. Several of us wanted to stay afterwards to watch the England game, so we specifically checked the pub’s website beforehand, which advertised World Cup screenings with multiple outdoor screens and a projector. Because watching the full game was important to us, we also called the pub a few days before our booking to confirm that we would definitely be able to stay outside and watch it. We were told there were no bookings outside after ours and that we would be absolutely fine to stay and watch the full game. When we arrived, however, we found notices around the pub stating that only the first half would be shown outside before the area closed due to noise restrictions. We spoke to multiple members of staff, explained the information we had been given over the phone and asked whether we could move inside for the second half. We were told no, as only people with indoor bookings were entitled to wristbands. We felt completely blindsided. Had we been given the correct information when we specifically called to check, we could have made other arrangements. What made the situation worse was how rude and dismissive some of the staff were when we tried to explain this. The staff member we had spoken to on the phone took no accountability for giving us incorrect information and made no real effort to help resolve the situation. On top of this, none of the outdoor TVs had sound, which completely took away from the atmosphere. If you are actively marketing yourself as a venue showing the World Cup, with outdoor screens and a projector, customers should be clearly informed about restrictions such as no sound, the outdoor area closing partway through matches, and the need for a separate indoor booking to watch the full game. Overall, the lack of clear communication, conflicting information and dismissive attitude from staff really put a dampener on what should have been a great night. We had spent hours at the venue as part of a large booking and were left feeling as though the pub was happy to take our money but had very little interest in helping us once there was an issue.”

“I recently visited The Alwyne Castle and had a really enjoyable experience. The atmosphere was warm, relaxed, and full of character, making it a great place to unwind. The food was tasty and well prepared, and the selection of drinks was excellent. The staff were friendly, attentive, and made everyone feel welcome. It’s a great spot for a casual meal, drinks with friends, or a relaxed evening out.”
